The Classic has been cancelled.

The NHL has decided to cancel the Winter Classic, which was slated to feature the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at the University of Michigan's football stadium in Ann Arbor on Jan. 1, a source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun on Friday.

In the six weeks since the lockout began, the work stoppage has caused the cancellation of hundreds of regular-season games, significant revenue loss and what may be irreversible damage to the game's reputation.

Outstanding work NHL. According to PD, they are planning on keeping next year's Classic in Ann Arbor, but you know what? Fuck that. Right now, the only way I'd go is if they give the tickets away free.

The worst run business in the modern world just made the worst business decision in recent history.

pretty funny one off the twitter: HBO 24/7 has also been canceled, after NHL owners insisted on renegotiating it down to 22/9.

that was going to be my last week in Michigan, i am unbelievably pissed.... at everybody.... owners, players, bettman, way to kill a Michigan boy's dream...

damn right, Chris. i'm so sick of this league. all pro sports have their hang ups and have slight lockouts, but it's the NHL that has them on a regular basis and only the NHL cancels full seasons.
