Lockout Therapy: Game 2 DET vs BUF

Written by Ryan on .

Detroit took the second game of our fake season by a score of 3-1 on the road against Buffalo.

Detroit started Gustavsson tonight and he did not disappoint, stopping 27 of the 28 shots he faced. Enroth got the nod for Buffalo, stopping 26 of Detroit's 29 shots.

"So this is what it's like?" said Gustavsson, who later elaberated. "This is what it's like to have a decent team in front of you?" Gustavsson then began laugh so hard he cried.

Dan Cleary got Detroit on the board first with just 6 seconds left in the first period. Buffalo's defense seemed to get complacent as the period came to a close and left Cleary wide open in the slot for a rebound goal.

Rest of the recap after the jump.

Buffalo would draw even in the second when Tyler Ennis scored on the power play. He took a crisp pass from the point and his rising shot beat Gustavsson on the glove hand. Buffalo would maintain pressure for the next two minutes, but a costly mistake by Tyler Myers, who elbowed Todd Bertuzzi, put Buffalo on the PK.

When asked after the game what it felt like to be elbowed, Bertuzzi grabbed the reporter by the throat and beat him over the head five times with a night stick. He then let the reporter fall to the ground and said, "Not nearly as bad as that did."

Dan Cleary would record the game winner moments later with yet another wrister from the slot.

In the third period, Nyquist scored his second goal in as many games with a snap shot from the right circle.

At that point, Detroit was out-shooting Buffalo 27 to 16, but the Sabres would battle for the rest of the period and out-shoot the Wings 12-2 in the last 16 minutes.

When asked about his team's prevent defense in the final period, Babcock said, "Who cares? We actually have a backup goalie now!"

NOHS Three Stars of the Fake Game:

First Star: Dan Cleary 2g and a +2 on the night.

Second Star: Jonas Gustavsson. .964 sv%. said Babcock of this stat: ".964!?!? Is that even possible for a backup goalie! WOOOOOO!" Before slamming a PBR and smashing the can against Kindl's head.

Third Star: Gustav Nyquist. 1g 1a and +2.

Next game is Thursday night against the Blues. When asked who would get the start in goal, Babcock stated that Howard would start, but then asked if we were serious that Gustavsson had a .964 sv% and when it was confirmed, he grabbed another PBR and went looking for Kindl.

See you Thursday.

LGdRW!

From here on out I'm going to envision Babcock celebrating every single win by smashing Kindl's head with a PBR can. Words cannot accurate describe how hilarious that visual is.
