As for the forwards, they were tossed around like rag dolls tonight. Datsyuk actually seemed rusty despite having played all season in Russia. Brunner didn’t disappoint as far as effort.
Skating was an issue. The Blues got to every loose puck tonight.
Howard did his best, but it was a shooting gallery out there.
Special teams were terrible. Couldn’t kill a penalty and they gave up a shorthanded goal.
Red Wings dominated faceoffs. Have to build on something, right?
I have nothing else to say about the team, but want to make one thing perfectly clear: This is not “Life after Lidstrom.” This is life when your team doesn’t show up. We could have had Lidstrom out there along with Suter, Parise, Nash and whoever else you guys wanted this offseason and the result would have been the same because they were not prepared. When one or two guys don’t show up, that’s on them. When it’s the entire team, that’s on the coach. I don’t think the Wings will keep getting blown out, but if they don’t bring any effort, Mike Babcock will be job hunting before March.
Next game is Monday night against the Blue Jackets.

there's no way this team can't win games. there's too much talent all around to get whooped on like that all the time. hopefully they were so humiliated they play with fire from here on out.
It's the first game so it's impossible to know the truth about this team but it can either be just a bad game by a desent team against a very very good team OR a sign of things to come this year because this might not be a very good team. We won't be facing a team like the blues every night but we need to play better, no doubt.

Franzen was gliding around again like a figure skater. Brunner line was pretty decent, they'll put up numbers once everybody else shows up, not that anyone did actually. What a letdown, they just slept through the game.
When not even your first, that have been playing hockey during lockout, can't get their shit toghter, then the team is in trouble. The Blues haven't had many players playing, maybe therefore they had more hunger towards the game?

something else that puzzled me was the 10 minute misconduct penalty Tootoo got. he missed everything in that hit and then did nothing you dont see in any hockey game ever and he gets ten minutes for it????????
