Is It Time for Tuzzi?
Game one didn’t go the way we wanted. It wasn’t terrible by any means, but there was something missing.
Line one was good when Pavel wasn’t getting hooked and slashed. They weren’t on their game the way they can be, but that’s ok. They are allowed one here or there.
Line three was buzzing. They looked nervous, but they still were good. I thought Nyquist shined while Brunner didn't get a lot done and kept losing the puck. But don’t mess with it Babcock. Don't you dare.
Line four was average. Not a lot of ice time, but nothing terrible either.
But line two got dominated. I thought Franzen was decent, but Filppula was pushed around the entire game. Cleary did what he could, but he is not a second liner anymore, nor is he a big guy.
Not to worry though, we have a big guy, we just have to let him loose.
Hit the jump for more.
Bertuzzi is healthy and has been for a few weeks now. But why mess with a winning formula? So he sat the last few games. I actually agreed with Babbles approach, but to me, it’s time for the ‘Tuzz to return. He’d certainly help the second line – adding a little more size and touch. Moreso, putting him in place of Cleary would give that line a little more room to move. Because, unlike Clears, you have to guard him or he can make you pay. Plus, he’ll abduct your parents and hold them ransom if you take liberties with Filppula’s pretty face.
I think you drop Cleary to the fourth line and let Tootoo sit a game and see how that works. I love the way Tootoo plays, but he’s just not versatile enough to be in the lineup right now.
So bring back Bert and, if he’s healthy like he says, hopefully we can get that second line going.
Buckets (although I love him) or Toots can sit. It'll probably be Toots. Put TAWD on with Eaves & Emmers. He can help keep the flies off while Eaves zooms around shooting everything at the net,
OR, like Chris suggests, drop Buckets down & let TAWD keep the flies off ValFil. I honestly don't see a downside to having TAWD play tonight...unless, of course, he really ISN'T up to it. Then I hope Babs limits his minutes. Eaves & Emmers can pick up the extra TOI.
Also? I miss Helm. A lot.
He's versatile enough to play across any of the lines. He's the wrecking ball with finesse we need in on the forecheck. Put him on a line with Pav and Z or to take pressure off of Fil and The Mule. Having Big Bert roaming the middle of the D zone will free Kronwall ( the other Wrecking Ball) to seek out Selanne and disrupt his game. Wanna get the game off of the boards? Put Bertuzzi on the ice.
Im with you. The Ducks are extremely similar to the Red Wings of 4-5 years ago...very skilled and talented but old and could be worn out. We need to feed Anaheim the same medicine that They, the Kings, Preds, and others have in those days...wear them the f*** out. Tuzzi is probably the best person to do that, along with more Kronwall. We need to bash them around and make this a 7 game series.
Leave Tootoo in the lineup. He and Eaves are playing great together. Just scratch Cleary and bring in the Tuzz.
I would like to see him step into the lineup, but I have a feeling it will be onto the 3rd Line. That's a worst case lineup scenario for me- Abby and Cleary stay in the Top 6, while someone from the only line with three people on the same page in terms of skill and effort gets someone kicked off.
I agree to an extent. Bert hasn't played competitive hockey in 13 weeks now (which even then was just a couple games before a looooong offseason). I can't imagine he isn't just stockpiling rust right now. Bertuzzi would have gotten in the final 2-3 games, but guys he was likely to replace (Eaves, Tootoo) started playing very well. I think--we ALL think--- Cleary needs to sit and never don the winged wheel again, but for some reason Babs loves the guy so don't expect it to happen
I was talking to a friend during the game and we said the same thing about Bert being back next game in place of Tootoo. I do not know if he will be on the fourth line with Emmerton and Eaves or if he will be on the second line in place of Cleary, but either way I expect to see him in.
definitely read this as "time to release bertuzzi" and got really worked up about it until i reread it in the article.
I've been studying for UMich finals this past week and wasn't able to watch last nights game, but I'm done thursday morning and would love to see Big Bert step on out and really show how to grind
100% agree. And Cleary on our 4th line is really nice depth. And while Buckets did score on the PP last game, I still think Bert is a better option on our 2nd unit.
Replacing a 4th liner with Bert shouldn't affect our chemistry one bit either.
@DetCapC19 Technically he has the goal. Whether or not he "scored" is up for debate. All kidding aside though, Cleary's best attribute is his ability to fight for space in front of the net.
