Red Wings vs Blue Jacket Recap: 3.9.2013

Written by Ryan on .

Red Wings didn't give much effort today and fell to the Blue Jacket 3-0. This is the first time in the history of ever that Columbus won a season series against the Wings and they deserved it. We're missing a bunch of guys that probably shouldn't be on the team anyways (minus Helm, of course) and they're missing a few of their best players but still destroyed us. They have taken 7 of 8 possible points. 1/3 of their total points came against Detroit.

Embarrassed enough yet? More after the jump:

There were not many bright spots today and I'm not going to make this into a "bash current whipping boy" post, so this will be short. What I want to know is, what do you think the Wings could have done differently to change the outcome? Stop shooting it into the goalies logo? Line adjustments? Or were the Wings just victims of bad bounces? Were they outworked? All of the above?

Personally I think it was all of the above.

Next game is tomorrow against this same team. Also, I'm posting something funny tonight, so you'll have that to look forward to. See you then!

LGRW!

My (non)favorite moment of the game was after we went down 3-0, and we took a timeout. As soon as the game came back, Mickey said (roughly), "During that timeout, Babcock didn't say a word to the boys." I'm entirely tired of silent-treatment timeouts. Tired of the team taking nights off. Tired of Kronwall making stupid plays in his own zone. Tired of bad calls. This season just has me exhausted with frustration from following this team.

Right, I'm not saying AT ALL that this was Monster's fault, let's get that clear. However, is it just me or does he look really awkward in net, flopping all over the place for no apparent reason and making routine saves seem as dramatic as possible. His rebound control is also not good, nor is his judgement about when to play/cover etc. I mean, he just seems a bit AHL to me, but doesn't seem to have butterfly/pro-fly dialed in at all either. He's just strange and it's weirding me out.

Anyway, the Wings sucked tonight. You can't win with no goals. I'm finding it hard to put my finger on any individuals, as in many adult gentleman's films, the sucking was a group effort.

I'd rather see Mrazek than the Monster in net. Today's game sucked on all fronts. Badly.

@FisherDude  Mrazek seems better on a technical level than Gustavsson, he has good stance, great b-fly, and good puck control. Not only that but he seems to have a good attitude. I guess we'll see how things pan out, but Guss sucked like the rest of the team this game. You can even see in the pic above that his b-fly is awful (at that moment in time anyway).

@Reddy Toronto thought they had a "monster" goalie in Gustavsson, but he never really panned out. There's a reason he's our backup, and I think that his rebound control is his biggest issue. Yes, he flops and flails, but the guy needs to stop and keep the puck once and a while.
