The best thing we can do as fans is put game 1 behind us. It wasn't an indication of how this season will play out and it wasn't a result of a Lidstromless defense.
I would like to clear something up real quick and then I may never speak of it again. Nick Lidstrom was one of the greatest players to ever lace up the skates, and the Red Wings benefited greatly each time he played. I don't want to hear that the Wings will fail without him. There are 29 other teams that don't have Lidstrom, and many have been very successful. We cant put the blame on one mans departure.
On to game 2...

Columbus is horrible, yet they beat Nashville in their first game while using Jack Johnson and James Wisniewski as two of their top four in the shootout. They also have Bobrovski in net which could be a huge advantage in digging themselves out of the NHL basement.
Enough about the BJ's. The Wings are oozing talent, they may not have shown it in game 1 but it there. They also have a growing list of injuries that now include Mursak and Gustavsson to go along with Helm, Bertuzzi and Kindl. There is also a huge possibility that Ericsson could be out as well.
I wouldn't exactly say we're oozing with talent. Also, there is an injury trend that has developed with this team over the last 3-4 seasons and it's getting kind of comical. And, I don't want to hear about how common groin injuries are at the start of the season. You don't see this happening to other top teams in the league, YEAR AFTER YEAR. I know most are only day to day, but damn, 1 game in and we're already down like 3-4 people.
@marti783 this is the first time I'm not worried about forward injuries. Mursak going down lets Eaves get in and some of the guys down in GR are better than most of our 3rd/4th line guys. Nyquist, Tatar, Sheehan, Jurco. Defense is another story. There are some depth guys out there that haven't been signed like Kubina and Campoli. Also Kenny could go the trade route but not likely as we've seen the last few years. Damn, sometimes my comments have more info than my post
It honestly wouldn't surprise me to see a completely different team than the one we saw Saturday night. Hopefully watching video of themselves taught them something and made them eat a little humble pie.
@brandik1313 Not sure humble pie is quite right, they weren't cocky or up themselves at all. They just came out and sucked. I wan't to see them get some swagger back in their game.
You're right, I agree, they weren't cocky. I just meant hopefully they were forced to acknowledge their faults and errors. If it was bad for us fans to watch, hopefully it was more so for them. It sounds harsh, but I'm a believer in tough love.
