You wanted change? All you had to do was ask.
Though this is a good news/bad news kind of shake up. Two is the number of the day. Brendan Smith (#2) is placed onto Injury Reserve after suffering an "upper body injury" in that Columbus Blue Jacket debacle on Saturday night. Tomas McCollum is sent back down to the Grand Rapids Griffins (that's two players out of the lineup).
Smith's injury is obviously the bad news. McCollum sat on the bench for his entire short stint with the big club... guess that's also kind of bad news as the First Round Draft Pick seems to have hit a rut in his progression and they didn't even feel confident enough to give him a sniff of NHL play (so far) this season.
The good news is after the jump.
Secondary scoring? How about Tomas Tatar? The flashy little Slovak has 19 goals and 39 points with the Griffins this season in 44 games played.
So sayeth Kenny "Tick Tock" Holland:
"We thought we'd have more secondary scoring. It's only eight games. Our big guys have produced, but we haven't gotten much from anyone else. Tatar has played real well in Grand Rapids. He had a hat trick. We'll put him in lineup tomorrow night, figure out a way to jump-start some offense. We're hoping he can come up and give us some jump and we can get some secondary scoring." --Ken Holland

Also on his way up is 20 year old Czech goalie Petr Mrazek (yes - he'd like to buy a vowel). The 5th Round Draft Choice in 2010 has played stellar in the AHL this season, posting a 16-7-1 with a 2.26 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.
Jimmy is going to need a day off this week. The Jonas Brother is still having groin problems, Joey MacDonald still isn't ready to go and McCollum is as cold as ice from all this sitting. So why NOT let the 20 year old protege have a crack?
YOU wanted change - well, here it is.
One last thought - with the Smith injury...Jakub Kindl is being put on notice by me. You better start showing up to play, Jakub. No more stupid penalties. Your team needs you more than it ever has.
That's two players down (one of them #2). And two players up...hence the title of this post. Oh it's also my second post of the day...not that that's news.
Yes! Mrazek! i was wondering why McCollum was the back up for them games when Mrazek was doin much better then him with the Griffins. And now he can have a shot, Man i hope he does a good job. Be pretty sweet if he was making Gus have to think "better pull finger out or im might be in the AHL". haha probably not but i think he'll do a dec job and give Howy a much needed rest.
