Red Wings vs Wild Recap: 2.17.2013

Written by Ryan on .

Red Wings were the better team for about 55 minutes tonight, but lose 3-2 to the Wild. To say that the Wild dominated during those 5 minutes would be a stretch. The play was pretty even, but their shots went in. Mrazek looked a bit rattled after the 3rd goal, but didn't give up any more.

Hockey happens. That's my favorite phrase to use when explaining to someone how we ended up with 0 points after playing better than the winning team. Hockey happens.

More after the jump:

Mrazek may never get nervous, but I think he got rattled there for a while. He's a competitor, though, so he didn't give up another goal. A lot of that had to do with Detroit's defense keeping the Wild forwards to the outside.

If you watch a replay of a Detroit goal against this season, you'll often find Kronwall standing in front of our goalie, providing the perfect screen. Such was the case on the Heatley goal.

If Pavel's shoulder is still hurting, you wouldn't know it watching that wrister from a mile out.

PK did really well. PP had a few looks, but wasn't dangerous. Tatar should have had a penalty shot. I've seen the Howard face penalty shots from far milder infractions.

Well, I'm kind of at a loss right now. They played well enough to win and probably deserved to, but they didn't. Once again, a team in red played hard, only to have a few cruel bounces go against them.

Hockey happens.

Next game is Tuesday against the Stupid Preds.

This defense blows and it's getting more exposed with all the injuries to our forwards. END OF STORY.

We played hard but the holes left due to injury are glaring. Babcock called out Fil but honestly one man can only do so much with Cleary on his line. Its high time Tatar got a shot on a top line, the heart this guy has is ridiculous. I thought Sammy had a great 1st period, he didn't have the legs to prevent the goal in the second. Is it just me or do the RedWings give out the most "first nhl goals"? Kind of pissed that Kindl was sitting as well. Not that Huskins is bad but we came into the season expecting Kindl to play, and now we sit him for the emergency replacement? Kronwall needs a better partner. He is too busy babysitting Lashoff and isn't worrying about his own game and it shows.

@JOHNxJOHN i don't know, man. i think Lashoff is picking up Kronwall's slack more than anything else.

@JOHNxJOHN Lashoff plays perfectly well. Sure he makes a couple rookie mistakes, but they're very few and far between. Kronwall has just not looked great the last 5 or so games. I can remember a goal on Friday against the Ducks where his back was completely turned to the shooting player. You're doing defense very wrong in that case. I was rather upset that Kindl was benched too. I'd let Huskins have some minutes, sure, but bench Quincey and skate Kindl. Quincey may have a better +/-, but Kindl's play has been looking better and better, as much as I hate to say it, with how much sh*t I've talked about him. We just still have too many defensive breakdowns per game to pile up any wins.
