Red Wings were down early and it looked for a short time that they would play down to their competition, but they found another gear in the second and took over after that.
More after the jump:
I liked every forward tonight. Maybe not Cleary, but I can forgive him because he tries. Yeah, Goose kept tripping guys and that was lame, but he worked his Swedish ass off and drew a penalty, too. That one led to Pavel’s goal.
This is going to be a fast recap, because I want to watch the Stars game. If they beat the Blue Jackets in any way, the Wings are in.
NOHS Three Stars of the Game:
First Star: Pavel Datsyuk. 1G 2A and he was great at both ends of the ice.
Second Star: Henrik Zetterberg. 2A and also great at both ends.
Third Star: Valtteri Filppula. 1G and he absolutely killed it in the faceoff circle tonight.
Next game is Saturday against the Dallas Stars. The game will be in Dallas and we hope it’s meaningless.
Datsyuk's best game in quite a while, I think. Curious to see if Rinne plays Saturday. And what will be said about it if he does. That team has an unusually high dropoff from the #1 goalie to the #2.
Dammit Stars you had one job! Need a point out of the next game to clinch. I doubt Minnesota will drop two or Columbus will lose to the Preds. We hold our own fate. LGRW
If Mule can keep playing like this then the Wings become a team that can maybe do some damage in the playoffs. Howie gets hot pasha does his thing and the 4th line stays hot...ya never know
Well I would much prefer if we could steal the seventh place from Minnesota too and to do that we likely have to win the last game as well.
@Old Fat Bald Guy I remember when Mason was heralded as a 2nd coming. Now he's a #2 for sure. Glad they played him tonight though, Trotz must have a soft spot for the Wings, who can blame him.
@JOHNxJOHN If Rinne is in net and feeling good the Jackets don't stand a chance, they don't have the skills, maybe the heart, but not the skills.
@moorecha The mule has been playing like it is a contract year lately, lets hope he keeps the fire burning bright for another month or so.
