What a great effort by this team. If you're counting, that's two straight game 7 wins for the Detroit Red Wings. They're getting it done at both ends of the ice and everyone is chipping in.
More after the jump:
Before I forget, I have to acknowledge Mike Babcock. His line combinations are clicking right now and players who were failing us are now contributing to the cause. I’m one of the first people to put the blame on him when the team isn’t ready or motivated, so I also need to be the first to point out that his team has been prepared to play and they want to win. Good to see.
The special teams are doing great. The PK has been stingy and that’s been a total team effort. Forwards are slowing entry, defensemen are clearing the zone, everyone is blocking shots and when one gets through, there’s Jimmy Howard.
The top line is playing some great hockey right now. You can tell that they want to keep playing. Especially Hank. I won’t judge him if his team doesn’t make the playoffs, but do you think he wants to be the captain that sees the streak end? Hell, no.
Nyquist is slick with the puck, but if you watch him closely, the reason he creates chances is he knows how to protect the puck with his body, but also because when he does lose the puck, he rips a trench through the ice trying to get it back. I can forgive guys for not being good enough at any given time, but my favorite players to watch are the ones that leave nothing on the ice. That’s Goose.
Wings killed the Kings in the faceoff circle tonight. It really was like watching old school Red Wings hockey.
Apparently Jordin Tootoo ate raw beluga whale meat and caribou last night. What a beast.
NOHS Three Stars of the Game:
First Star: Patrick Eaves. Assisted on the GWG by Tootoo and was firing the puck every chance he got. Also good on the PK.
Second Star: Pavel Datsyuk. Another big game by Pav. 1G 1A.
Third Star: Jordin Tootoo. Ate raw whale meat yesterday (Eff you, Paul Watson!) and scored the GWG tonight. Was also hitting everything that moved. Hunts and eats caribou.
Honorable Mention: Coaching staff for getting the guys ready to go. It’s not over yet, though. HUGE game tomorrow. Win and the Jackets are in a world of hurt.
See you tomorrow when the Red Wings play the Predators.

As long as he plays Cleary and Abs the way the do, I can't give Babcock credit for anything. Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken. Putting those two guys on our scoring lines doesn't make them scorers.
Looks like the puck possession Wings of old. And do all the other Wings fans LOATHE Pierre as much as me. It'll be nice to have Mickey back tonight!
Cleary hasn't been very good and it kills me to say it cuz I love the guy and he is so determined. He turns it over all the time and only had one or two good looks at the net. I caught myself thinking how much better that line would have been if Miller wasn't hurt and Cleary sat. He just can't do what his mind wants him to do.
Also Smith plays a risky game but it is good to see he has the ability to cover his mistakes.
DeKeyser is good at hockey.
hmmm, not sure what happened, but some buzz on Twitter suggests Franzen might be hurt. May miss the game tomorrow. If so, Bert probably plays.
It was great to see the team come out with hunger and urgency, as opposed to the team I've been used to seeing this season which often came out looking sluggish and bored. Its about damn time they woke up and played like the play off contenders we all knew they could be if they got their shit together. LGRW!!
That third line is deadly. They are playing some great hockey. Let's give Babcock some credit for sticking with Abdelkader. He is playing really good hockey right now. Babcock is a great coach doing some great things. The only question is what happens tomorrow when Bert comes back?
Aside from Fil, Cleary, Smith, Quincey, and Kindl, I thought everyone was great tonight. Even those guys weren't TOO bad. The biggest issue was the PowerKill Unit #2; holy crap. I was a little worried with the effort when we controlled the play early on and things didn't go our way, but they held it together. I'm glad Miller's injured, because Eaves deserves to be a on 2nd or 3rd scoring line. Guy's a beast with heart and skill. Danny D's rolling up onto the PowerPlay, which is good to see. I have loved the last two games. Even if we'd have lost, I would have enjoyed watching them. Guys giving effort and acting like they care. Much better hockey to watch, and we're picking up steam at just the right time (assuming we make it in).
@JOHNxJOHN I love the guy too, but I hope they don't re-sign him. I think he's past his prime. It's not a criticism, really. It's that where he is and where this franchise is, they need to go with the kids.
@AMZUX Bert said he didn't want to get back into the lineup if they were doing well because he didn't want to be a "hitch" to the team. I'd guess Tootoo gets scratched and he takes Abby's or Cleary's spot though.
@ThroatShot lol, i wouldn't say i'm glad miller is hurt. he was good for us. but i agree, Eaves is better right now.
@Twig I suppose. I can't see him back next year either as a UFA with all the guys that should be coming up, so we likely have seen his last game in a Wings uniform. Thanks for your service, Drew, but I no longer care.
@ThroatShot haha Calgary?
