It's Official: The Greatest Defensemen in NHL History Has Retired

"I wanted to walk away from the game, I didn't want the game to walk away from me."
Here's to the greatest who ever manned the blueline. Enjoy your time off Nick, you deserved it.
You'll be greatly missed Nick. Clearly a firm believer in the phrase, "always leave them wanting more".
Lidstrom: See "The Perfect Human"
Was I the only one who thought he looked 25 during that press conference?
When Yzerman retired, I remember wondering if Nick was going to be able to fill Yzerman's shoes. Six years later, I think we can all agree that Lidstrom filled the role of captain as well as, and in some ways better, than Stevie Y.
Congrats on a wonderful career. I hope you had as much fun playing as we all watching.
Congrats, Lidstrom. You gave everyone your best, and that was beyond anything anyone could ask for. You are a legend and forever shall be. Thank you for being you.
Time to build on the legacy that Lidstrom has left behind and create a team he would be proud of.
Nick Lidstrom started playing for the Wings when I was 6 years old. Today he leaves the game and I am 26. It wont be the same not seeng number 5 on the blueline. The only comforting thing is knowing that I will be able to tell people 20 years from now that I got to watch all 20 glorious years of Lidstrom's career. Not "one of" the greatest defensemen to ever play; in my opinion he was THE greatest defensemen to ever play.
Congrats on a HoF career.
The only thing left to do is not hang on to what could have been. Time to look forward.
Who is the next Wing's Captain?
@NOHS Drew His day is the day we see number 5 going to the rafters. Not trying to downplay what he has done... no way you could do that anyway.
I am sure he wants everyone to focus on getting the team back to the top. Picking a new C is the start of that process.
