Suter's Rights Are For Sale
Written by Chris on .

Sitting pretty isn't going to work this time Kenny. At least not according to one Twitter account, The Fourth Period.
League exec told us last night he expects Preds to deal Suter rights around draft, 'just like they did with Hamhuis, Hartnell and Timonen'

I wonder what it'd take for Nashville to trade his rights...I don't have the slightest idea.
Credit to A2Y For finding this gem.
Update for Parise- he said today at the locker cleanouts that he has no desire to leave New Jersey.
@ThroatShot don't read too much into it. his actual words were no different than anything anyone else says weeks before free agency.
not that it isn't true because sometimes it is, but what would have actually surprised me is if he said he's looking forward to getting the hell out of there.
@Twig @ThroatShot Yeah. My hopes won't be dashed until his name is on a contract that doesn't include Ken Holland's signature.
I'd like to see Tampa Bay trade a pick for his negotiating rights and then make that trade with us, but I think GM's are going to start seeing this trend and will be nervous about dealing with Tampa Bay as a result too.
What if we traded Jiri Hudler's negotiating rights for Suter's negotiating rights?
As a Wings fan I'm all for it, but why would the Predators want Hudler's rights? If Holland wants Suter's rights then he's going to have to, at the very least, offer a guaranteed draft pick.
@garth @RedWings3RDP Negotiating rights aren't worth that much, they don't offer any guarantee whatsoever. Hudler's rights are worth as much as anyone else's, but I don't see Nashville wanting them.
@Reddy @garth @RedWings3RDP Well they've announced that they're not going to retain Radulov and he's well on his way back to the KHL. If they're going to let Radulov go, good chance they'd let Kostitzyn go. Either way, they may be looking to add another 20+ goal scorer and Hudler can be that.
So you exchange negotiating rights and both teams potentially get what they want and need.
Suter, Suter, Suter...Nice addition perhaps. What about pursuing a trade for Jason Garrison or Jack Johnson or Alex Pietragelo. Let's face it the Wings need to get a little bigger.
This means pretty much nothing. We have the space to sign him and I'm sure we are willing to sign him to a long term deal. In all actuality this is kinda good news, it shows he doesn't have interest staying with Nashville. All they are going to get in return is a late round conditional draft pick and honestly if that's what it takes to have first crack at signing him then so be it!
Well, this kind of sucks. Then again, rights don't equal a signing. Tick tock tick tock, I wish the draft would just happen already.
Just talked to friend. Suter and Poile have a meeting friday. This may be nothing more than a way of the team examining options
Thanks lol maybe someone goes for him, but even if someone does get his rights that don't mean suter has to sing with them. He could pull an Evgeni Nabokov, yet be a free agent a week later and come to us with out waivers lol would be awesome
If they are trading rights, then this is a situation like Stuart, where he is electing to not stay with the team. The team is trading rights to get something, which will not be THAT much given that everyone knows that getting the rights doesn't necessarily mean you will get him. I am afraid that, as Twig pointed on in a previous post on Nash, they are not going to want to deal with a division rival. Our only real hopes in this is that he has picked a team and that team is Detroit OR that no one can make a deal the Preds want (which seems impossible since something is better than nothing).
I actually see this as an unfortunate scenario but not the end of the world. I hope Suter has picked Detroit along with his buddy Parise. Maybe we can trade Quincey's rights for Suter's lol.
@ThroatShot Being that he's the highest-profile UFA defenseman, he'll get an actual, guaranteed draft pick rather than the "if we sign him you get a pick" conditional pick that SJ gave us.
I do. Cause we have 20 mil in cap and this shows that he actually will be available. And he's gonna be a ufa so if all the gm's realize that, maybe they'll wait and let him be a free agent so they don't have to get anything to get him. But kenny can do this I'm sure, just hope it don't hurt us
