Report: No Schultz
According to The Detroit News, soon-to-be Free Agent Justin Schultz will NOT be coming to Detroit to play for the Red Wings.Many fans were getting excited about this 21 year old defensemen from the University of Wisconsin...but apparently, he has no interest in joining the greatest franchise in all of sports.
There's about 5 or 6 General Managers reportedly trying to woo Schultz to their team - Ken Holland was one of them. How can you say 'no' to Ken Holland? He made it public that they'd guarantee him a roster spot...

It's obviously not about the money - Schultz is only eligible for a two-year deal for an entry-level deal ($925,000 base salary, including $92,500 signing bonus, plus $2.85 million in performance bonuses for a $3.77 million cap hit). According to Kenny, everyone's offer is exactly the same.
Schultz is most likely looking to get into the top four on some team. But why? He hasn't established himself in the NHL yet. This would be like Brendan Smith going out there and demanding big-time minutes (don't you get any ideas, Brendan). Schultz would get his salary (which is ample) and a chance to climb the ranks of a perennial Cup contender.

I guess we shouldn't be all that surprised - if he's willing to walk away from the Ducks, then he must be looking for something very particular. It's not like Anaheim's defense is any better than Detroit's...
Oh well - Schultz isn't the guy that we're really after anyway. It's one less distraction for Ken Holland to go out and get Parise and Suter. I wasn't all that impressed with Schultz's highlight video, anyway.
I'm a glass half empty kind of guy. I'm always pessimistic. Intuition tells me nothing good will ever happen. Blah, hopefully I'm wrong... I really want Suter and Parise (or Semin for that matter), so hopefully Ken can work his magic.

This kid is a dumb ass. I read that "He really wants to play hockey in western Canada." What a dope! Good luck winning a cup there!.... Maybe before you retire, but not for quite some time. The whole situation has "Edmonton" written all over it. Good... Can't wait to see Pavel own this sucka.
