Knuble Wants to Return To Detroit

Written by Chris on .

Interesting news from Washington during an interview with Mike Knuble

CSN: You have a home in East Grand Rapids. Would the Detroit Red Wings be a possibility?

Knuble: We are going back that way and we are going to live in Michigan, probably the rest of our lives, or at least until the kids go to school and are out of college. Detroit would be a neat story since I was drafted there. I’ll make no secret about that. That would be a nice way to come back around. You don’t have that luxury, but maybe a team has a hole and I can fill fit for a year until a prospect develops.

I said this before and I still stand by it, I think getting Knuble back to Detroit makes a lot of sense and would be great for both parties.  Of course, I'm saying this as a filler guy, not a big move, but just something I think helps complete a team with Zach up front and Ryan on the blueline.   He's a great leader and I think he's shown to be the right kind of personality of guys that Detroit wants.

Hat tip to Kuklaskorner for finding this.

You are dreaming if you think Parise and Suter will be in a Red Wing jersey.  Knuble would be a good addition, after Hudler leaves.

 @JamesHowardPatrick First off, we are all dreaming of Parise and Suter signing with the Wings.  Second, the Wings have as good a chance as anyone of signing one or both of them.  Third, the Wings had a shitty post-season and we're looking forward to the off-season so what's wrong with a little dreaming?

Huh, on the last article I commented on how I wish we could drop Bertuzzi.  THIS is the exact kind of guy I'd rather have than Bert.

 @garth Bertuzzi didn't do a damn thing after he signed his new contract.  Stopped liked him then.

@garth

He won't be anything like Bert in the shootout. I'm not sure he's as replaceable as you think. Plus he's signed so no point even worrying about it.

I think signing Knuble would be good, though I do wonder why his points plummeted this season.

2010/11 - 24G, 40P (+10)

2011/12 - 6G, 18P (-15)

I mean since 02 he's consistently put up 20-30 goals and roughly 40 points. But to drop to 18, hmm.

 @Reddy To be blunt, I don't give a damn about Bertuzzi's shootout numbers.  The two big names that have come up on the UFA market (Parise & Semin) but have the same shootout effectiveness as Bert.  I hate that they re-signed a third-liner who is taking up a spot on the first line.

 @garth No problem man, keep on keeping on.

 @garth  It happens.  We're not trying to extinguish that fire in your belly, just trying to help channel it successfully.  Now THAT is a much better case that you've layed out.  This is more like I want to read when I read comments.  It's long been argues that we have far too many bottom-six forwards.  Totally can agree with that.

 @moorecha  You're absolutely right, my apologies, it was uncalled for.

 @Josh Howard You're right.  I overreacted.  As for the Bert-bashing, I can't not complain because I hate the re-signing and it almost definitely means that we end up missing out on someone who I would prefer to have, like Knuble, who I would love to have on the team except for the fact that we already have way too many bottom-six forwards.

 @garth  @Josh Howard Buddy, I like you as a reader, but watch the insults.  Angry is fine, but this is over the line.

 @garth Wow... don't take things so personally. (giving you a hard time,  bud)  I'm simply saying that complaining about him being signed just doesn't have much to do with Knuble.   It's not constructive.  I do agree with you though, I'd almost rather have him than Bert especially if he wants what I hear he wants for a contract (think 1 million tops). Still doesn't change the fact that we still have someone you don't and will never like on the team taking up a spot on the team.  Let's stay positive and focus on the good... after all, it's not like we're Leafs fans.

 @Josh Howard    Hey, how about instead of telling me what to do, you go f*ck yourself?  I don't care if he's signed for 15 minutes or 15 years, I don't have to like it.

 @garth  @AndyInBaltimore  @Reddy Garth... enough with the Bert bashing... he's re-signed for 2 years with a NTC and there's nothing you can do to get rid of him.  Reddy, I think the reason his (Knuble) numbers plummeted has a lot to do with a new coach and being demoted to the 3rd and 4th lines.  He was a healthy scratch at times.  Andy, I agree with you... dude can crash the net and create chaos.  He's said he would be more than happy to just help get a rookie into a spot. Can you say "rotation"?  I'd sign him for a few bucks if he'd do it.  This is his last year anyways. Worst that can happen is he does nothing and we just barely squeak into the playoffs... we're not risking much money.

 @AndyInBaltimore  @Reddy I'm really curious what people think is so irreplaceable in Bert.  Wow, he's tied with 40 other players for 30th in shootout percentage!!!  Oh, and he's a third liner who isn't effective as a third liner and is only even half-way effective when he's playing with Datsyuk, who should have a better player as a linemate on the top line.

Re-upping Bert, for TWO YEARS, is indicative of what was wrong with the Wings last year.  Too content with having mediocre players in roles bigger than they should have.  At least with Conklin and Hudler the brass are smart enough to let them drift off into the sunset and with Ericsson they picked up another guy who would allow them to not pretend he's a top-four defenseman.

 @garth  @Reddy

 I really don't think he can replace Bert, but he IS good in front of the net and the wings happen to have a net front man who is a potential retiree...he could replace some of those numbers.

 @TheFrozenOctopus I haven't seen that, whats your source?

 Some dude on facebook commented on an NHL update page, not really reliable, but I thought if someone heard something they'd say it.

 @TheFrozenOctopus  Any claims that he has signed with anyone before July 1st are BS unless they are preceeded by news that his rights were traded away.

Never, and I mean never, believe Leaf fans. If you ask enough of them, someone will tell you #99 is gonna lace them up one more year and play for the Blue/White...

Just read this on NHL.com that he wasn't signing with the Caps again, and instantly though Detroit. For the right amount of money I like this signing.
