Kings Win!...Moving On

Written by Drew on .

Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings...who can say they didn't deserve the Cup this year?  Sure, the #2 and #3 seeds in the West were WAYYYYYY over-rated...but they still beat a solid team in Vancouver in five games and a solid team in New Jersey in the fourth and final round.  Is this year's Stanley Cup winner - with a record of 16-4 - going to go down as one of the most dominating teams in play-off history?  Not bloody likely.

I believe that ten years from now, we'll be looking back and using the Los Angeles Kings of 2012, and using it as the cliche example for the "you just gotta get in" when it comes to the post-season.

But enough about that...how about this?

See that guy in the white jersey in the lower right corner?  He should come to Detroit.

Make the jump to see who agrees with me.

Google is the Internet's most visited website.

And Google thinks Zach Parise looks good in white and red...though - according to google - he should be wearing a little less black than in the photo shown above:

googleparisetodetroit
So if you type in "Zach Parise" in the Google search bar...you get his name.  And after his name, the second thing you get is Zach Parise to Detroit.  And when Zach Parise goes to Detroit, Zach Parise gets a contract.  And when Zach Parise gets a contract in Detroit, his girlfriend comes with him to Detroit.

The last search option not listed in this sequence of events is...

"Zach Paris to Detroit, gets contract, and NOHS Chris hits on his girlfriend...again".

Now that the Cup Final is over...the madness of what is sure to be an interesting rest of the summer can now begin.  By all means - keep the "yay" and "nay" talk going about Ryan Suter...but Kenny's #1 priority should be Zach Parise.

Sign the man.  Pay the man.  Chris will thank you.

Let's get this done, shall we?

I don't think he is going to Detroit. I still think he's too blue chip.

I was at the Radiohead concert, so I actually missed last nights game. Anyone know where I can download it with the extra festivities? Glad LA got to win it in LA. Always sucks when the team wins it on the road.

You said it just like I did.

Parise is Priority numero uno. Long term, big dollars and build the team around him. He could easily become the leader of our team for the next 10 plus years. Its a good fit...if and only if, Jersey doesn't want to pay and he doesn't want to sign. My guess are the chances of him in a Winged wheel are MUCH slimmer than with Suter. But when Brodeur retires do the Devil's compete like they do now? Is he going to wait and find out?

I just hope he has an agent that pressures him to test the market. I know Detroit will be waving some money at him.

@magnum9 I wouldn't go so far as to say build it around him. For a start, our new captain will be, and should be, zetterberg. Second, we aint building anything, 90% of the team will go unchanged, were just reloading and trying to fill the holes left after this season. But I agree, he will be one of the leaders on the team and could be captain material after Z. Both him and Suter have expressed a desire to play together, so actually I think the chances of getting both greatly increase after getting one. Kenny, show him the money!

@Reddy I got to be honest here, though its just my opinion, the Wing's would do themselves a giant favor in finding a relatively young guy from outside and actually building around him. Stevie Y was an unlikely "C" because of age but the decision to make him C so early was critical to the success the Wing's have had.

I would have nothing wrong if they brought in a guy like Parise and made him C... so long as he was actually fits the part in the locker room.

It seems that a lot of us Wing's fans are willing to try dragging out the same winning strategy of relying heavily on veteran leadership. I think Z, Pav, and Kronner are great leaders, but I also think it is critical for this team to adopt a more energetic style of play, much like the mid 90's Wing's.

Flame away.

@magnum9  Bringing in Parise and making him captain goes against the entire ethos of the club. It would be a huge betrayal of Zetterberg and the rest of the team who wouldn't want some young kind who doesn't know the system coming in and trying to lead them. It wouldn't work. Not to mention Parise and Yzerman are completely different situations. The Wings were dead in the water when he came along, it was what they needed. Are you seriously suggesting the current situation is comparable? I makes no sense to bring in a new captain. This team doesn't lack focus, direction or leadership, so in no way is a new captain appropriate.

I get what you are saying. At first I felt the same way. But the more I look at the current situation the more I feel that we may be looking at things through rose colored glasses.

Detroit has only one proven defenseman. Maybe one could throw Ian White in this category.

Goal scorers? I would say none.... unless Franzen decides it's time to actually work for that salary. I believe whole heartedly that Pav and Z are playmakers and in a way highly-skilled grinders.

Do you think there are any future hall of famers on this team?

Not saying it requires a future HoF'er to win the cup but  this team is not as good as we think (just my opinion)

Since after the lock out we have been winning games through depth. I think our depth has been lacking the last few years and it is unlikely that the Wing's will pick up much depth. I think it is time to start bringing in the really young players and hording early round draft picks.

A player like Parise, who is younger and "fresh" could help groom the team just like Yzerman did. Especially by providing the most needed asset for the Wing's... goal scoring... and lots of it.

@magnum9  @Reddy I don't see any way the Wings do that.  Comparing Yzerman's rise in Detroit to Parise's potential role here are 2 different things.  Yzerman was picked by Detroit and became Captain when the Wings didn't have much else to lean on.

Parise would be joining a team with arguably the best player in the world in Datsyuk, and a proven leader with a few years on him in Z.

It's a weird comparison, but I look at it more like this, Parise (would be) is to Zetterberg, as Shanahan was to Yzerman.
