Flyers vs Red Wings: Game 4 6.7.1997
Written by Ryan on .

Tonight we live blog the game that ended so much frustration. Whether you want to pretend this is actually 1997 all over again or you just want to relive the game is up to you.
You can find the game here or you can find it on your Celebration of Champions DVD box set.
Puck drops at 8:00 EST. Then at 9:20 EST, head over to twitter to thank McCarty for being awesome. He's not following social media at this time because of the issues he's dealing with, though, so don't expect a response.
About this time 15 years ago, I was bagging groceries at Family Fare and watching the clock, wishing I had called in sick. The store was packed and everyone was buying the same thing: Beer, chips and dip. I asked every person who was buying beer if it was for the game tonight. All but one person said yes. The state of Michigan was hooked. I missed the first 2 periods because of work, but my friend and I listened to Ken Kal during our breaks, so I had score updates. When the shift ended and I drove home, Dale Earnhardt wouldn't have been able to keep up with me. I got home just in time for the third period. What a night.
Can't believe it's been 15 years...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEaJywJwBx0 shitty quality but it has almost all of the laps with the cup.
10:14, Vladdie takes his turn. How bittersweet is it that this may have been the last time he ever skated a lap, and it was with the cup hoisted over his head?
I miss Vladdie. And Russians like these. Ovechkin and Malkin don't even come close to how much heart The Russian Five had.
if your video ended, the cup ceremony starts at 4:55 on this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3y3vces-Us
I so wish I could have either been here or in a bar with a group of friends for a game when the Wings win the cup instead of at work or being asleep. In 98 I made a giant Stanley Cup and stayed up to watch it and when we won, my dad took me on Gratiot to the medians to party with everyone driving back up from the Joe and coming out of their houses. A drunk man poured beer into my aluminum foil cup and drank it. Best memory of my life.
I no longer have any idea where we're supposed to be, friggin window decided to close.
Crazy relation? My old room mate's dad was one of those police on horseback outside of the Joe.
@Twig I hope more than just us sent him a tweet so he has awesome positive things to come back to after this legal business is over for him.
I still have a Detroit Free Press newspaper diagramming that McCarty goal. It's an amazing goal. Like TDT said: Everyone knows what "The Yzerman Goal" is, everyone knows what "The Larionov Goal" is, and everyone knows what "The McCarty Goal" is.
@ChrissyKraceva that "knowledgeable fanbase" is also one of the loudest. Holy smokes, what a chant, each one, and all night.
@Twig wait 10 minutes to twitter bomb@D_Mac25 about how awesome and meaningful this was?
Whoa, we killed less than 80% of penalties up to that point? Crazy! We can win with a shit PK!
Oh man, when Fedorov cared more about the team than his salary... he was so awesome.
For his penalty, that was such a lame Vladdy hit as far as Vladdy hits are concerned
CBC Colour Analyst (who's a majour douche) saying he'd love to see a defenseman win the Conne Smythe. "It always goes to a goalie or the player with the most points." So true. Good thing Nicky Lidstrom changed all that.
Kozlov with a chance to shoot but looked to pass. Was Hudler watching this game taking notes?
@Twig I think Kozlov is still in the KHL, maybe he gave him tips during Happy's dark year.
Seems like every shot on net by a Detroit player features another Detroit player fearlessly crashing the net. Weird, is that what wins championships?
Best game for sure of any Flyer goalie, ridiculously large shoulderpads or not...Hextall was strong save for the Lidstrom goal. Playing his ass of and answered that bad goal with some huge saves early in the second already.
