Quincey Signed

Written by Chris on .

Well, boys and girls, the Quincey wait is over, he's a Red Wing for at least two more years.   It's roughly what I thought he'd get, maybe a little higher.

@HeleneStJames:  Red Wings settle with RFA D Kyle Quincey for two years, $7.55 million.

Now we just wait on Abdelkader.   Any guesses what he'll receive?

I'll take it without complaining. It's not like we have D-men to spare.

Oh, and the Weber situation just got interesting, signed an agreement with Philly, 14yrs for $100million. The Wings have choked again, don't know why they didn't make a similar offer to him.

@Reddy Really?  Not signing Weber to a no-brainer, easy-to-match offer sheet that is going to keep him in Nashville for the next 14 years is somehow choking in your eyes?

Do you really hate Weber so much that you wanted Holland to ensure he never plays for the Wings?

I like Q and I think this is a good deal.  He gets $4.5M on the open market easy.  Besides, at that price, there's no way we could replace him with anything better.

I bet Abby gets $1.25M-1.5M.  Hopefully signs a 3 or 4 year deal.

Not terrible, could turn out to be pretty decent.  I think that he'l end up settling in all right.  He's not likely to ever be a top-pairing guy, but as a second-pairing guy he'll probably be OK.

We really need to find a defensive defenseman though.

Too much, probably.

@garth Probably right, anything over 2M is way too much.  He's just that good of a player.

@moorecha  In my book anything more than $1.5M is too much for Abdelkader.  In fact, I'd argue he's redundant with Tootoo on the roster.

I think this is the most perfect ending we could have wished for in this scenario.

I don't think he is worth 3.775/yr as a free agent but that's what RFA does to player prices.

I think Quincey will find a fit on the Wing's and be a completely different player than we saw at the end of last year.

Contracts just all look inflated right now with the cap increase and unknowns in the CBA.

@magnum9 As I said in my post above, I don't like Quincey on the team; however, he is definitely worth that if he were on the UFA market. Really young kid with Top Pair experience (Colorado) would bring probably more than what he got. Defensemen are bringing in top dollar these days.

@ThroatShot  @magnum9 Perfect way to put it.  I don't think he's a great fit on Detroit.   He's a poor man's Ian White.  But there's no room on the team for two White's.

@moorecha  @magnum9 Right now, there's room on the team for anyone willing to play defense (much like my beer league team...). I don't think he's good for us, but he's unfortunately better than any alternative (outside of Hail Mary trade).
