Believe in The Wings - Because We Can Score

Written by Chris on .

Need another reason to believe in your Detroit Red Wings?   Well, here you go, thanks to my local paper, the Columbus Dispatch

A list, by team, of NHL players who have scored 20 goals in an NHL season, compiled to accompany the story that appeared in today's editions of The Dispatch:

#1 BOS (10): Bergeron, Kelly, Krejci, Peverly, Savard, Seguin, Milan, Marchand, Rolston, Horton

#2 (tie) DET (9): Datsyuk, Filppula, Zetterberg, Franzen, Holmstrom, Bertuzzi, Cleary, Eaves, Samuelsson

Basically, this is a reminder to us fans - don't forget that our forward group looks pretty damn strong. Past the perfection of Datsyuk and Zetterberg, we have guys that can score on every line. Sure, some of those player's heydays are long past (Homer),  but that's not including the new guys: Nyquist and Brunner.   I expect one of those two will pot 20 home this year as well.

Hit the jump for more reasons to believe:

Hell, don't forget that Eaves put up 20 in his rookie year and can score if given the chance.   He's a 4th liner on our team.  The third line will have at least two 20 goal guys.  And the entire lineup will be a healthy mix of scoring and experience.   There's five lines that can play with talent, grit and speed.  Plus, I don't believe Kenny's done yet.

Last year Detroit finished with the second most goals in the league, behind only Vancouver by a single tally.  There's no reason that that won't continue.

Believe it.  LGRW.

And don't forget that Kronner scored 15 last year.

Even if guys like Bert, Cleary, and Eaves don't hit 20 this year, I think we'd have at least 6 guys who score between 12-15:

Bert, Cleary, Eaves, Helm, Tootoo, and Miller.  I expect everyone in our top 6 to crack 20, so we've got good depth.

Kronwall will lead the blue line, Smith will be the guy who steps up and takes on a bigger role

Finally a positive article about the Wings.   They will be a very good team again, and will remain one of the elite organizations in all of pro sports.

I too believe in our forwards, for sure.. Its the D I'm worried about.. And I wonder folks, if THEY believe, and have the heart?? Gotta admit, some nights, it just wasn't there. Going to be a huge test for them. Interested to see who steps up, and takes on a bigger role. We know Dats, and Z will, who else will take charge?

"At the end of every hard earned day, people find some reason to believe." I believe in this team. LGRW!

I don't think many people are worried about our inability to score next year - i think we're more worried about the frequency that we'll be pulling pucks from our net.  I am not going to blamed Jimmy for much, because we all know he is a pretty damn good goalie.  However, if you don't put people in front of him that can cut down the amount of action he sees, well it won't bode well for poor Howard.

Also, we can count on Homer being gone to Sweden - and I wouldn't be surprised if we packaged either Franzen OR Filppula with Nyquist or something for a defenseman.

@freakazoid0587 If we're giving up Franzen OR Filppula then I'd really, REALLY hope we'd get a really solid D man in return, but I can't see us getting a top tier D man for either of those two AND Nyquist

@freakazoid0587 I would be very surprised if we saw any of them leave for a defenceman tbh
