Red Wings vs Canadiens Recap 1.25.2012

Not a good effort by the Wings tonight. Rather than recap the game and dwell on a bunch of sorrow, I'm going to discuss why I think this happened.

Jump for more:
The Wings have played a ton of games on the road so far. Way more than the teams they're competing with for playoffs position. With the long weekend coming up, I just think they were ready to get back home and spend time with family. Couple that with Montreal actually playing a great hockey game and you get a blowout. It happens.

Now, some people on twitter jokingly asked if this is what hockey will be like when Lidstrom retires in 2149. If there are any of you out there actually wondering that, the answer is no. Not at all. However, this is what hockey will always look like when the team doesn't show up. Lidstrom was dressed last year when the Blues scored 10 on us. It's not a lack of a superstar, it's a lack of effort.

As for the game, anything negative that I would write would be unfair because that simply was not the Detroit Red Wings on the ice. Good for Hudler putting 2 in the net and denying Price the shutout.

The rest will do the boys some good. Next game is Tuesday in Calgary. Puck drops at 9:00 EST.

I blame the Douche Canoe ..... poor Conk had to ride in it to start. I was thinking if this is what the team plays like without TPH then I stopped and thought when I heard who was replacing him for the game and said "oh fuck no" if Ericson would be replacing TPH then the whole universe would implode. It is probably safe to say that for one game that the team just imploded. Poor White had to play babysitter.

Something just didnt feel right when they said Ericson was going to be stepping up to fill in Lidstrom's spot.

The team seems to second guess themselves and the system without TPH or Dangles out there. I'm sure I'm no more disappointed with them than they are with themselves. LGRW

I'm a bit irritated at the effort the boys put out last night, but not all that pissed. I just really wish that they'd quit overlooking these teams. We're still in First, but the extra 2 points would have been nice.

On the bright side, how about that NHL36, eh?! I LOVED IT!!! I wish it had been longer than half an hour though.

I know that NHL36 was great. I can't wait for the series that will lead up to next years Winter Classic!

I want to blame the lack of a movie poster post, but I'm gonna blame my want to do a scary movie poster rather than an action movie poster. We kick serious ass with an action movie poster. For those who would like to see the poster that didn't make it... it'll be on twitter. Very disappointed in the game, but it was fun to chat with people online and post funny pictures to cheer ourselves up. Twig was awesome on the twitterbox. :)

thank god i missed that game. i probably would have had a heart attack while screaming at my tv. i dont care if they lose with good effort but to lose to crap teams by scores like this shows me they played with a garbage effort and that burns my biscuits, especially in a division race thats so tight. points cant just be thrown down the drain. but then again if THERE WASNT THE LOSER POINT THIS WOULDNT BE A PROBLEM

i trust Babs and his hair will straighten this out.

Everyone knows we are not battling the Canadiens for points. Team Lidstrom wins the games that matter, but you can not win them all. I would much rather the team fold against the Avalanche, the Canadiens, and the Islanders then the Bruins, the Blues, and the Blackhawks. Would still like to see a bigger threat then Conner/Mursak/Eaves coming when the inevitable injury hits.

If Helmer keeps hustling the way he did tonight, I would not be surprised to see an A on his jersey soon enough.

unless we offer picks, I dont want to see Pulkkinen, Nyquist, Smith, the likes of them being rumored about because that seems to be the angle that McGuirre was working on one of the Chicago-Detroit recent match-ups. And certainly not the likes of some important roster players so... done now!

besides a select few who played with drive (Namesake, Pavel, to name some), not a great effort on national television, another night off, and a most unfortunate end to a great win streak. sorry for the rambles, but I am truly interested to see just what happens in the coming weeks with all this talk of trade jargon being thrown about, by Pierre McGuirre especially, (strange source...) but he seems to be in the know, certainly during that Monday game on NBC Sports Versus. I hear all around me that the true test will be the Canucks and Sharks when we take this team we have up against them, but havent we been beating back up-start Phoenix teams and teams in St. Louis and Chicago that have 'even more' points than the Pacific and Northwest division leaders? part of me has grand intrigue for trades, yet i am hesitant to be throwing names around on this team

first time comment, long time reader (97.1 The Ticket anyone?) but in all seriousness, this thought crossed my mind on my way home from work. Wings down 6-2 at that time, but before heading out initially for work, i read in freep.com that Nick would indeed be a game time decision due to sickness. Not to say at all that Lidstrom even being there would've allowed us to weather the storm any greater than we did, but wasnt the announcement of him suddenly being sick, i dunno, sudden? perhaps just reading way too much into it, but the man that declines his all-star invite to rest his own psyche and re-coup, then spur-of-the-moment doesnt play the last game before the all-star break... coincidence?

The Wings have a knack for over looking sucky teams. I can understand that, it's like working on the last day before Spring break. It just doesn't happen. I only watched until the 3rd goal, but Helm and Abby always try to bring energy when the team is lackluster. Too bad it doesn't always catch on.
