First off, a disclaimer: This entire idea has been shamelessly ripped off of JJ From Kansas' temporary series over at Winging It In Motown, Things I Have Read This Week Which Make Me Laugh. If you want to see some great mocking of a St. Louis Blues fan, read this. It's great.
Anyways, moving on to the point. This is what I found as the first comment on the Toronto based Globe and Mail:
Where to start with this idiocy? Let's go with claim one. There's no question that Scotty Bowman was a genius coach. But the real reason behind their playoff success? Come on.
Let's do a quick comparison after the break.
First, take a Scotty's record with Detroit in the playoffs.
Remember, that was during the freespending, pre-salary cap era, where deals brought in guys like Shanahan and Hasek Now here's Mike Babcock's record:
So the difference between Bowman and Babbles is .038% in the playoffs. Hell, considering the salary cap, I'd argue that the Wings have done BETTER under Babcock than under Bowman. When you have Drew Miller on the third line compared to Luc Robitaille and can pull off a comparable winning percentage, that means something.
So clearly this guy's an idiot. But then he claims that Lidstrom was the guy who failed to shake hands? Wow. Way to get that wrong.
Following the game on Friday, Crosby allegedly skipped the post game handshake line, choosing instead to celebrate. He did shake hands with several players moments later, but Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom and veteran Kris Draper weren’t among them.
“Nick was waiting and waiting, and Crosby didn’t come over to shake his hand,” Draper told reporters after the game. “That’s ridiculous, especially as their captain, and make sure you write that I said that.”So clearly this is just a guy who hates the fact that Detroit is a dynasty and has won the Cup four times since the last time the Cup was last lifted in Canada.
Looking through the rest of that guys comments he seems to be just another twatish troll, and in complete denial from what I see.
Judging by that username, I would say Ryan Miller is still sore we chased him out of net a few weeks ago.
And just because I'm an engineer, I have to say this...it's 0.038 if we're talking about a difference as a W/L ratio, but percent it's 3.8 % (x100). Still, they both win an average of 9+ games per post season, and considering our last 2 post-seasons have been disappointments, I'm thinking Babs and Kenny gear up for a big push this year.
And the author's point might not be to say that we're nothing without Bowman, but it sure comes across that way. Babs wins everywhere, at every level, because he's a winner. And if people want to say it's just because of the team, or the GM, or the things Scotty did before he left...who cares? Let 'em. They're just bitter and trying to find a way to make themselves feel that we won't still dominate the next 20 years of hockey. But we all here know we will.
Haters. Who needs 'em.
