Hockey Puppy! A Reader Needs Our Help!

Charlie needs our/your help. He's getting a puppy and he wants to name it something Red Wings based, but he doesn't know what. I'll let him explain:
I need some help. I read your guys' site all the time and a huge Wings fan. I know you guys are super busy, but I have racked my brain for weeks to come up with a name for a dog I am getting next week. Sounds simple right, but the dog I am getting is female, chocolate lab. I have tons of names for boy dogs, but nothing good for a girl. I want to keep it Red Wing based. Best ones I have so far is Stevie, Nickie, Connie (Conn Smythe, Norris, and Pavel. My ultimate favorite is Helmer, but no means a girls name. Does it matter? Or do you guys have am idea?

My first thought is that chocolate labs are awesome. And the only thing more awesome than a chocolate lab? A chocolate lab named after the Wings.
Secondly, while you can't name a girl dog "Rex" or a very manly name, a name like Helmer isn't a problem.
So I have a few suggestions, but I want to hear yours. Here's mine:

- Ozzie
- Happy
- Kocur
- Probie

You could always call her 'Puck' and reference hockey as well as Shakespeare. (A Midsummer Night's Dream) ;)
The only things I could come up with right now are Zata or Allie ( a female version of Al the Octopus)
@brandik1313 Is that the name of that big Octopus in the Joe? Did not know that but I saw that name and forgot about Al the Octopi waver. I was like Doh how did I miss that :P Allie is better than the one I thought for an Octopus....

Happy is good, but non-wings fans wouldn't get it. maybe call her 'Lady' and say her middle name is Byng. the only women within the organization that come to mind are karen newman and marian ilitch.
if it was me, i'd go with Lady Byng. i'm sure pav would agree.
Ah the choices.... I think that there is many things you can use to find a female name for a dog still related to the Wings. I may have to be a bit more subtle than one can usually imagine but hey you made the right choice coming to a place like this and some great ideas have been given. As for what I like and ideas...
Wallie (Kronwalled when the dog jumps on someone)
Octie (nothing better than the tradition)
Houdini
Luise (different from Louis so its not confused with the blues, but for the Joe)
Olympia
Mickie (short version of Mackenzie yet reference Micky Redmond)
Vladdie (cant believe I forgot one Iconic defensman for so long)
Valarie (female sounding of Valteri)
Terrie (as in Sawchuck)
Chris (Osgood and Draper reference)
Sweedy (so many Swedish players on the team)
Russia (Russian 5, Pavel)
Bella (long time sponsor of power plays Bell Tire :P)
Commie (not a long standing player but it is an option)

I think that is a good enough list for now.
I have a miniature poodle named Pawsha. (My baby brother thought the "w" made it a better dog name.) He is named after Pavel Datsyuk but everyone always thinks he has a girl's name. I am constantly defending his manhood. So if you are looking for a name people outside the hockey world will believe is a girl, Pasha might be a good bet.

I would recommend either Dogsyuk, or Zetterbark. On a more serious note, I always wanted to name a dog Gordie, or Mr. Hockey.
I really like Happy. I mean, you can't argue with that face.
You could also go with Marian, after Mrs. Ilitch. or go after other players' spouses. Howie's wife is Rachel, Babs' wife is Maureen, Norris Nick's wife is Annika, Hank's wife is Emma, Holland's wife's name is Cindi. (Man I love the internet, right? Lets me be all sorts of creepy without judgement or much work)
How about after the Detroit Red Wings own Karen Neuman? Or take the sienfeild route... Name the dog a number?? Although the greatest dog name is Optimus Prime... But that's just me.
I had the same problem when we got our puppy. I came up with Ozzie, Stevie, Abby (good old Justin), and even threw around Liddy (tph), Babs, and Scotty. It took us forever.
