Good End to a Bad Weekend

Written by Drew on .

Many of you saw this gloriousness last night...but for those of you who didn't - here's how it ended:

For those of you who did see it, isn't it lovely to see it again?

Isn't it nice to have that fifth official up in the booth with Doc Emeric?  He's supposed to be doing the color commentary, but instead he was the voice of Joel Quenville b*tching about every non-call on Detroit.  "Edzo" seemed to be even worse than usual last night.

And how about that left right cross on Steve Montador by Johan Franzen?  I wish he would do that to the "Edzo".  As usual, Doc changes to subject every time "Edzo" and Pierre McGuire start crying about the refs.

Jump for more and a little 'Standings Watch'.

I had a thought this morning - I wonder if other teams get as mad as we do about "Edzo" when they play the Hawks on VERSUS the NBC Sports Network.  I think I'm going to take a poll of some other blogs out there who have to endure the same.  We know that everybody hates Pierre McGuire....but what about the idiot doing the color commentary?  I would assume Philly fans would have something to say after 2010 Finals...but I'll ask around.

But as for the business end of things...check this out:

WCS010912

Detroit has won five of its last seven games while Chicago has found it self in a four game tailspin.  The pesky St. Louis Blues continue to hang around, but Detroit has two more 'W' than they do, giving us sole possession of the Central Division Lead having a game in-hand on Chicago.

As usual, the Western Conference is packed pretty tight with only six points separating second place from tenth place.

But looking at the three teams in the Central with 53 points, we see some interesting fluctuations in team stats.

Detroit has the same amount of goals scored as Chicago (134) but has 29 goals less scored against (DET - 94, CHI - 123).  St. Louis has scored 27 less goals than Detroit (107) and has let in only 5 fewer (89).  What does it all tell you?  It comes down to individual games.  You think the Hawks would trade in some goals in one of those blow out games for one last night?  Too bad that's not how it works.  What those stats tell me is that Detroit is by far the most well rounded team.  Chicago can win big on occasion, St. Louis can keep the other team from scoring...but Detroit can do both.

It makes me happy.

We can't keep ignoring the fact that the real question here is not why he's allowed to announce Hawks games on NBC, but rather why anyone ever gave him a gig as a colorman in the first place. People, the man's catch-phrase is "active stick," a fancy little term he uses to bestow meaningless praise upon players who (GASP!) use their sticks to make a play. If he ever becomes too much, hit mute and substitute Ken and Paul, or go ahead....take a drink every time he takes that beautiful piece of diction out for a spin. Chances are you'll quickly realize that the three-ring shit-circus that is the NBC broadcast team is far too pathetic of an entity to waste your hatred on. Save it instead for the team we just downed in OT on their home ice, that team that has dropped four straight, the team that will soon be eating our dust in the central division standings. As for "Edzo" and his boys, they may be babbling, biased idiots but they don't have a hand in the outcome of the game, while the guys in the Winged Wheel always do. NBC deserves nothing but our laughter. LGRW

What makes me most mad about the wining for calls is that they were the huge benefactors from the refs all night (and every other night). Admittedly by Doc, Detroit should have gotten a penalty shot on Seabrook's pre-Holmstrom Holmstrom impersonation. That was way clearer than Homer's too. We have, like what, 1 PP now in the last 5 games there? They got 5 just last night. Any complaints I hear from Edzo are immediately classified into the "STFU Moron" category and disposed of accordingly.

I don't get why Eddie gets to call national games with the hawks or penguins involved, he turns them into a home broadcast, even the replays become one sided to fit what he is talking about. When Helm got loose on the PK all he could talk about is what Seabrook did right in getting back to defend him, when it was his mistake letting him get by in the first place. And to bitch about the too many men at the end like that when the replay was blatantly obvious that it wasn't was just him being a sore looser. He needs to be a professional and do what he's paid to do. When the Wings win he just sits there in silence, and when he does speak its in such a sad tone. Kent's done versus games before, but do you think they would let him do one with the wings playing? I bet he would be fair if they did

Even when Detroit was up on Phoenix 2-0 last year in the playoffs all he could talk about at the end of the game was how Phoenix should be happy with the way they played and how they have momentum. Pathetic.

I've sent messages out to bloggers of all teams playing Chicago on VERSUS this year (Phoenix, Minnesota, Pittsburgh) to see what their thoughts are. The Pensblog boys (should they choose to accept it) should have an interesting perspective with "Edzo"s ties to that organ-i-zation. Hopefully, we get some good feedback for me to post. @Jordan_Reis

I'm sure it's not just us that notice, living here and having to watch Wings Hawks games on WGN or CSN is even worse, I have to be put on suicide watch for 48 hours before and after @NOHS Drew

@NOHS Drew I like that idea. It's always been blatantly obvious that d-bag has something against the Wings. Let's see if I can word this delicately enough to not be crude (family friendly...somewhat!) Edzo seems he can't call an unbiased game because he has difficulty speaking around a certain Chicago or Pittsburgh phallic object lodged firmly in his throat. Either that, or he gets paid every time he mentions those teams or any of their players, like product placement.

@Saylind@NOHS Drew

I know, I can't, either. When I saw that the game was being broadcast only on that channel, I knew it was going to be nothing but B.S., like it always is.

Then Edzo must be a rich man with all that product placement talk. I cannot stand watching these games on VERSES.

So phreaking awesome. My boy even layed down a patented Kronwalling, albeit not the usual intensity, more like a bus last night than a freight train, but still great. Conk, keep playing like you did the last forty minutes and you will instill confidence in the fans again. Awesome game last night, and look at that standings chart ;)
