Stars vs Red Wings Recap: The Record is Ours, Hockeytown

Detroit dominated this game from the start. Even when Dallas had pressure, they couldn't do anything with it and the result was a 3-1 win.

Recap after the jump:
Unfortunate that Joey didn't get the shutout that he deserved but wins are more important than personal stats. He also did a better job playing the puck tonight so that's good. I don't think he'll be in Grand Rapids any time soon.

I'm sure one of you Negative Nelly's saw someone in red who sucked out there, but I didn't. I'd say the team played about as good as they could tonight. PK was great, PP was great, even strength, forecheck and backcheck. They did it all.

Ott is a bum.

Please, if you ever go to a Red Wings game, please please and please again don't stand up when the play goes past you. If you do, I'll have no choice but to despise you.

Our third line continues to amaze me. No matter how good or bad this team plays the third line keeps playing hard. That's what happens when you put three young guys with big hearts and short-term contracts on one line together.

Officiating was good enough to keep the Stars from gooning it up, but let a lot of easy calls go. To win 21 straight in a league where refs won't let games get out of hand is impressive. Still, Detroit did get way mre PP chances, so I'm not complaining about the refs. Just pointing out the obvious.

NOHS Three Stars of the Game:

First Star: Henrik Zetterberg. Another goal and more solid play by one of our most important players. Keep it up, Z.

Second Star: Jiri Hudler. The man can shoot the puck when he wants to. He didn't get the game-winner, but he got the game-closer.

Third Star: Everyone who blocked shots. Which would be just about everyone. This is a team that can go far folks. They're skilled, but they know how to play gritty hockey, too.

NOHS Favorite Moment of the Game: When the team went to center ice and saluted the fans. Yes even the tools that made the game about them when the puck went by, though they probably left with a minute to go to beat the traffic. Anyway, it was a great moment and it makes us love this team even more.

Bonus Favorite Moment: Finding out the Blues lost to the Jackets. el oh el.

I know that's a short-ish recap, but when the team plays such a great game there's very little to say. The next game is Friday night against the Preds. Puck drops at 7:30 EST. If you're going to the game, be loud. Keep the record going.

In closing, I'd like to know what this win meant to you. Nothing? A lot? A little? Explain...

I hate to be the Sad Sally here... I was so excited about this record. I went and looked at the standings. 24-2-1 at home for the entire season. Holy crap that is ridiculous. The number next to it was a shock to me though. I knew our away record couldn't be that good, but we are 15-15-1 away. Crud Pirates of the Caribbean. .500 with half crap teams in the mix. That made me die a little inside, so I wanted to shared.

@ThroatShot they've been better lately. besides, this hasn't been a typical year on the road. the team has been on numerous marathons of road games and that takes a toll on the team. they'll be better on the road from here on out. also consider that conklin doesn't play at home. only the road.

Those "fans" that stand up & wave at the camera? WHY AREN'T YOU WATCHING THE GAME?!?!?!?! Morons.

I'm going to Friday's game!! I do solemnly swear to scream my fool head off. :)

@raputathebuta That's been going on since as long as I can remember. It isn't going to stop any time soon.

Usually there are Stars fans waiting around every corner to say something stupid about the REDWINGS! One person says she doesn't care if the Stars lose every other game as long as they beat the "bed springs", huh? This year my days here in Dallas have been very quiet as the Stars fans realize they are 0/4 against the REDWINGS! this year. I get to now remind them that they go down in history on the losing end of breaking a record that has stood for 83 years! Take your one cup on a goal that rules had to be changed to make legit, and... @#$%#@$%!!!!DETROIT REDWINGS HOCKEYTOWN!!! 24/7/365

for me, this streak is right up there with the 62 win season. i like that detroit owns so many records for wins, but the best part is they didn't all happen at once. 16 years between 62 wins and 21 straight. that says a lot about this franchise.

That 3rd period felt like a game 7. Awesome win and streak, here's to many more! Plus I love watching Otts childish whining face when he gets called, makes me laugh every time.

I hate people that wave at the camera too, so annoying, and if you do it at least smile!

I really noticed Abdelkator putting on a lot of pressure at points last night. He's a keeper. Also, how about the Blackhawks 9th consecutive loss! That puts them equal with LA and only 3 points into a playoff spot...

It gave me chills! Who's got the Wing beard growing????.... This guy!!! since November. Right around the time we starting making teams Fear the Joe!!! This team couldnt get much better. Our back up is better than most teams starter. He really deserves that spot. I like conks but he just hasnt shown any sign of life lately. Our 3rd and 4th line have to be the best in the league. Just out working any line they face. Our D has really played great this year. E52 has his ups and downs but more ups nowadays. White I feel is a excellent fit and really impressed with his play. And the machine as usual just never ceases to amaze me and everybody who gets to see him play. Lidstrom is just incredible and im so lucky ive been able to watch him play. And our top lines can shut down and score against anybody. That kind of stuff wins championships. I cant wait for Friday. LGRW!!!! Sry so long. Im just really jacked up about what this team is doing and has accomplished and we are only in Feb.

This team just continues to spoil me! I like tonights record but the number I care about is #12. If they continue to play like they did tonight, the dream of #12 is looking good.

It meant a ton for me. I live in st louis, have to deal with blues fans 24 7, and haven't got to see them win either game in the stl, so to save up and work my ass off to go to the ducks, flyers, stars, preds and sharks games and them win the 1st 3 and break the record when I have glass seats, its pretty un-fuck-ing-be-leave-able ! And I couldn't complain about 1 player either. Hope commie gets the next 2 games though I wanna see him in det and we need him for the sharks

This win meant a lot. It is a sign of things to come. Good things. This day was made especially great with the loss of the Blues AND Hawks. I'm getting the playoff shakes just thinking about it! The good kind though! #12in12

All I could think is that we won't ever see this again in our lifetime from any team. Then I realized that if they play this well we will see it again Friday.

For the record, Tuzzi is one of my favorite Wing's to watch but I am not even sure he has ever learned how to stop. I remember doing C-cuts just like he does back in mites. I bet the guy could have scored 3 times in the last two games had he stopped in front of the net. I saw several rebounds go in the direction he had been a second before with an open net available.

But I want one of his bobble heads more than any of the others.

It felt like a mini-victory of some sorts, like something celebrating how good these guys are.
