Going to bed knowing that the Wings are within one game of having the BEST HOME STREAK EVER in the modern era, was made only slightly sweeter by waking up to this one the front page of NHL.com...
Awww...brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it? I remember a time not too long ago when the natives around here in Chicago were getting a little uppity about the race we found ourselves in the Central Division. That line went dead about a week or so ago.

That three dog race we were just a short while ago...yeah...that's a thing of the past, my friends:
Those pesky St. Louis Blues are still within striking distance with three games in-hand and have matched our record over the past 10 games...but Chicago is sinking like a stone. I mean, they've been Columbus bad over the past 10 games.
We've played more games that anyone in the Western Conference - but as long as we keep WINNING those games...it really doesn't matter how much the competition has in-hand on us. How would you feel playing a seven game series against ANYONE right now knowing that four of those seven games come at the Joe?
One last little anecdote:
I was at a business function dinner around Christmas time when one of the gentlemen I work with was giving me crap about how Chicago was ahead of Detroit in the standings. "How's it feel looking up OUR skirts?" he said to me with a smile. I saw that same gentlemen on Tuesday of this week. I walked up to him and smiled...without provocation, he looked down at his feet and said, "yeah, you won't hear any 'skirt' talk from me today".
How sweet it is...
I'm a transplanted Red Wings fan living here in the NW subs of Chicago. Since 2009, my 10 yo and I have had to put up with kids and adults alike saying "Detroit Stinks" whenever we're at the local ice arena. So much so my kid gave up wearing his Red Wings jersey to hockey practice. Now that the Blackhawks are again back near the bottom of the division, where we think they should eternally remain, he's a little less reluctant to wear it again.
If there's one thing you soon learn about Chicago fans it's that if any of their teams goes into a little bit of a nose dive they all start abandoning ship. Now they're starting to put some of the blame on Stan Bowman for the slide their beloved Hawks are going thru. As much as I hate the Hawks I'm sure they'll right their ship in time to make the playoff and give Vancouver fits. They have too much talent to go quietly into that good night.
"How would you feel playing a seven game series against ANYONE right now knowing that four of those seven games come at the Joe?" I said almost these exact words to my dad the other day. Love it, LGRW!
Is anyone honestly surprised by this though? At the beginning if the season analysts were picking then left an right to go deep in the playoffs and I never understood why. Yes, they can score and, as Chicagians love to point out, have a good "core" (which we all know means jack), but they suck in every other category. They got rid of Brian Campbell because of his ridiculous contract, but I bet they're missing him now. They only have two defenseman, and that's only if Keith decides to show up. For gods sake thats not even mentioning the goaltending. I'm not complaining, I love seeing them loose. The boys just gotta keep it up, the central is the only important division to win at this point.
