Red Wings vs Oilers Recap 2.4.2012
The Red Wings did not play well enough to win until the third period. Conklin was bad. The power play and penalty kill were a disaster and the result was... 1 point.

Once the Wings failed to score on that extended 5 on 3, they gave Edmonton confidence that they really didn't need. The Wings didn't even come close to scoring on that 5 on 3. Some credit needs to go to Edmonton, but the Detroit power play is trash right now. Simply embarrassing.
I think it's about time to give Joey MacDonald a shot at starting a game. Only 40 minutes of evidence to work with, but I think it's clear that he'd give Detroit a better chance to win.
Kronwall's huge hit was clean, yet he was booed by Edmonton fans. I thought they knew more about hockey than us simple Americans. Guess not.
Ericsson needs to give Lidstrom a present of some kind for saving his tail on that late 2 on 1.
NOHS Three Stars of the Game:
First Star: Joey MacDonald. We suddenly have hope that we can survive Howard's vacation.
Second Star: Todd Bertuzzi: 300, then 301 goals for his career. Congrats, Bert!
Third Star: Drew Miller. Three straight seasons with at least 10 goals. His last three have come at pretty important times, too.
NOHS Favorite Moment of the Game: Getting confirmation that we have a capable backup goalie in the system.
Next game is Monday against Phoenix. Puck drops at 8:00 EST.
I do not think it is Conklin's fault on many of the goals, HOWEVER he lacks the confidence to keep the team in front of him playing well in front of him. This is how he is effecting the team in general. Mac has the confidence to stabilize the team in front of him. Conk has the ability but he needs to regain some confidence.... send him to Grand Rapids for that and maybe he can redeem himself later. As long as he is out there without confidence he will be making the team in front of him try to over play things.
@Red_Wings-Devilmasta Regardless of his confidence, it's going to be extremely difficult for the team to regain confidence in him, no matter how confident he is the team is not and doesn't look like it will be unless he gets a solid streak of wins, and by this rate it doesn't look likely.
Definitely would go for Mac Daddy over Conks right now, and he's definitely an AHL'er.
i was writing this as the third period went along, but didn't post it until after the game. late night and needed to get a jump on things. i take it the post was up and readable before the comeback was on?

I read the first recap after the game last night and it seemed that you wrote it after the first or second period because there was no mention of us tying it up or taking the lead or even how the game ended.
Kind of odd that you would write a premature blog like that.

Honestly i think Conklin was only at fault for the second goal. the first one the defense didn't even bother boxing out and the two closest people to the goaltender on the power play wore blue and orange.
the third goal was a deflection.

Conklin's sloppyness, poor positioning, flopping around like a fish and general sh*tness is entirely to blame. Get rid of him Kenny, please.
Bert's second was an absolute doozy, I love that man.
To soothe my emoan tions I am going to eat a brownie and watch Kronwalls hit one more time.
I 100% hate games like this one. When Mr. Conklin gave up that third one I thought I was going to jump through a wall. I haven't been that angry, yes angry, at one of the boys for a long time. It didn't help that I for sure thought Val scored in the shoot out and started celebrating only to realize he didn't. And now I turn the tv back on because god knows I cant sleep after something like that and its an infomercial for NoNo, an automatic razor for girls! What is wrong with this night?!
@mary Gonsalves I feel you, this mostly-awful game ended my really crappy week. Here's hoping the boys (and I) start Monday off on a better note with JMac in net and no overtime.
Interesting (and good) choice by Babs to start the 2nd with Joey Mac. I'm in full agreement that he needs to start the next game. He played strong and was confident. Power play is starting to get a little concerning. I'd also like to see Zetterberg and Franzen get some goals. Also how about Lidstrom blocking that shot towards the end of the third.
The last 20 minutes were entertaining. Even if we lost.
Bertuzzi can bring it when he has to.
Helmer needs to get new gloves.
Commodore is literally fighting for a spot on the roster.
The Conklin panic was fair. We can argue forever on what the bigger factor is: him playing badly or the guys not playing confidently in front of him. JMac played well. I hope he keeps it up, and I won't have to panic about needing a better backup (coughistillwantnabokovcough)
Also, I got notified that this was posted in the middle of the 3rd and I got really paranoid that what i was watching was not current or Twig had some clairvoyant abilities. Nope, you just gave up before the Miller and Bert goals :(
Conklin is not confident ...... JMac was and that allows the team to have more peace of mind. I believe Conklin needs to go to grand rapids just so he can get his confidence back. If the goalie isnt too great yet has confidence then the team can do better than one without.

Have always loved Joey. He will give up a softy pretty regular, but not 2 or 3 like someone else. Wings played crud buy still made something out of it. Todd was a wonder to behold. Another win when Commie is on the team, hopefully Babcock is keeping score.
