Quick recap tonight, folks. It was a roller coaster of a day for Wings fans. We got Quincey, then lost Pav. Had a good first period, then fell asleep against the Blackhawks. It happens. 6 game winning streak ends with a 2-1 loss.

Rest of the recap after the jump: Howard had no rust to shake off, but the rest of the team sure did. I won't go into details about who was bad and who was worse. I'll just say that Howard was great tonight and deserved better. Helm and the rest of line 1c had decent energy, but not enough. Way too many guys slacked off tonight. Way too many bad outlet passes.

Not enough good looks at Crawford. If you're playing against a bad goalie, you've got to make him work. The Wings didn't, so he gets a free W.

NOHS Three Stars of the Game:

First Star: Howard for stopping and endless stream of breakaways. It took two fluke goals off of heavy pressure to beat him.

Second Star: Filppula for his PP goal in the first. Good to see him score.

Third Star: You tell me. No one else really impressed me tonight.

Next game is Thursday against the Canucks. Puck drops at 7:30 EST. We'll see you then.

Stick tap to Jimmy Howard for not skating off, getting changed and going home in the second period. He hung in when noone else seemed to give a damn.

I think Fil's goal on Crawford exposed what a POS he is as a goalie. As much as the Child Beater (Milbury's new nickname), Douche Canoe, and Edsucks wanted to claim that there must have been a deflection, there wasn't. Their reply showed this proof positive. He got beat by an unscreened, undeflected wrist shot from the top of the circle. Wasn't really a smoker or picking a corner either. He just missed it. Unfortunately, we hit him the rest of the game. I have full confidence in Corey Crawfail to miss every puck you don't hit him with. Chicago will go nowhere. We had the worst night I have seen in a while, and we still lost only 2-1. They are so bad NHL.com is throwing out trade rumors of Kane moving for a franchise goalie. We should offer Conklin for Kane- never know. Then we could laugh at Kane languishing away buried in Grand Rapids.

@ThroatShot Chicago fans were comparing Kanes lack of output to Z's. than i reminded them that Z actually knows where the defensive zone is.

@Instinctz I was sad Pav wasn't playing against Kane specifically. Every time they face each other, Pav humiliates Kane and exposes him as a POS as well. I look forward to the Hawks games thinking, "What crazy crap is Pav going to embarrass Kane with tonight?"

I will say this until I am blue in the face: BIG RIG + KINDL = STOOPIDIDIOTTURNOVERSINOUROWNFREAKIN'ZONE. Break them up. Or continue on this dark, moronic path of lameness. Choose wisely.

I was absolutely pissed at the refs tonight. the Helm Breakaway should have been a penalty shot. when Helm got called for tripping he was held not 30 seconds before. 30 seconds after the Hawks power play Homer got dragged down from behind and no penalty at all. oh, and both the first two Hawks power plays should have been Diving penalties. seriously. unbiased and fair officiating my arse.

It was just a bad all around effort. Pav and Helm are usually the only guys to push 100% every night but of course Pav was not there and Helm can't do it all. The comparison between the penalty shot on Toews earlier in the season to Helm's should have been was hilarious. Different refs, different calls i guess. Tuzzi and Franzen weren't playing tonight. They should have kept Hank with Fil and Huddler, and then moved Abby with Mule and Bert to recreate what I call the monster line (they are our biggest players).
