Pitched for Kubina?

kubinaplayerpicSo we have the San Jose Sharks rolling into Joe Louis today.  But with the trade deadline approaching on February 27th - there's bound to be some rumors floating around to act as lovely little distractions.

Here's one from The News Herald:

Just a day after asking him to waive his limited no-trade clause, the Tampa Bay Lightning may have found a suitor for defenseman Pavel Kubina: the Detroit Red Wings.

A source confirmed to The Macomb Daily on Friday night that the Wings have made an offer to the Lightning for Kubina. Details of the offer aren't known.

Anyone see this one coming?  I sure didn't.  Kubina ended up going to the Flyers...but I'm surprised the Wings went after him.

Make the jump for more details.

"I'm very comfortable with this team.  I always have a wish list. I do in the summer and I do in the winter. Bottom line is we’ve got a good team." --Mike Babcock

Interesting that the Wings would target another defensemen...all us fans had been lobbying for some scoring up front.  Perhaps they're looking for someone to replace Brad Stuart should he jump ship at season's end?

"There are always going to be rumors, especially as we get closer to the trade deadline.  More rumors will pop up. It's entertaining sometimes, but some of them you can't take too seriously."
--Nick Lidstrom

Interesting...don't you think?

The Macomb Daily? No offense to that paper, but they are not going to get inside information like that. Between the three major news networks in Detroit, the two major papers and the countless national markets I doubt the Macomb Daily would scoop them all. Thats like having your local chuch paper have inside information on the next pope. Sources are another way to get your readership up without actually having to produce any actual proof.

This has everything to do with their lack of confidence in both Kindyl and Erriccson, especially Kindyl. If one of our top four defensman goes down for a couple of games, that means more playing time for those two, which means....uh oh.

We don't need a scorer. We're top 5 in the league in goals-per-game. What we need is a depth. If we were to take 2 or 3 injuries down the stretch, our replacements are all players with almost no NHL experience, let alone playoff experience.

I could see Kenny throwing out a low ball type offer thinking, if the wings get him for next to nothing, great... The deal offered, if it was offered at all was probably not to be "taken too seriously"...

@D.M.N The Flyers got Kubina for 2nd and 4th round picks. It makes me wonder what the Wings threw at Tampa. I don't see how we could have offered lower than that.
