Jimmy Suffers Broken Finger - May God Help Us All...

Written by Chris on .

howard16The worst thing imaginable happened during last night's game-Jimmy Howard was hurt.  Per MLive:

Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard suffered a broken finger on his right hand during Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over the Vancouver Canucks and will miss the next two games of Detroit's road trip.

Ok, two games...so maybe not the worst thing imaginable, but it'll be a taste of it.

Hit the jump for more details.

Originally, the reports have said two weeks. Per TSN:

Word is Jimmy Howard has a broken pinkie, should be out about 2 weeks or so…

Hopefully the Wings aren't pulling a fast one on us and it is only a few games.  Either way, the next week or so, Conklin will be playing for his job.  If we have to rely on MacDonald in anyway (who was called up today) that's a bad sign.

Alright everyone don't panic!!!!!! Just run and get you tinfoil hats!!!!! I do not have one so I will just wear a goalie glove:P

What hand is the broken pinkie on? If it is the blocker hand which is what I probably is then that is FAR better than the glove.... at least it is a non relevant digit.

Word on the street is that Hulktuzzi plays goal with his buds during the summer. I'd love to see him in net lol

He's been riding the pine a while so I hope Conks is up to this, I'll suspend disbelief for now, but uh-oh...

Honestly guys don't blow up yet, Conklin has been better of late, he played Decently well against the Islanders (4 of those goals were on the defense and what not, if Jimmy was in net it would have been 4-0 Islanders), he got the win against Chicago and he had another win recently.

You know, I'm all for crashing the net, but I'm really getting sick and tired of the Nux crashing the goalie ... especially ours

fortunately the next two weeks do not present the most daunting of tasks. two games against the oilers, anaheim, phoenix, philly, dallas and nashville. as long as they dont pull another montreal, they should be just fine, especially with most of those at home.

Chris, don't make me have to put you in a headlock to calm down. lol I think Conklin will get us by. Our problem with him in net is not scoring goals, not necissarily his lack of goaltending. LGRW!

@Josh Howard I think Stuart has more key saves than Conklyn this season... Also this just in... The sky is falling.

If Conklin fails miserably in his own, without the guys not playing in front of him, Holland had better start shopping around for goalies or I may have to hunt him down...

@ChrissyKraceva Not gonna happen. Holland is gonna save the money for someone who can score and contribute. If they fail, it won't be because of Conklin or Big Mac.

@Josh Howard Oh I know, but even if we score 8 goals a game, we have to have someone who can stop the easy shots in our net to win; both parts are equally important. I have faith in Conks after the Chicago game, but this still makes me a little nervous and full of what-ifs. That's why I made sure to mention that Conks would have to do poorly independently of how the team plays- and usually those two factors are related so it was more of a hypothetical and improbable situation.
