Howie's Healing

Written by Drew on .

Tomorrow will mark the 14th day since James "Tiberius" Howard broke a finger on his right hand.

macdonaldplayerpicSurprisingly, it hasn't been a horrible two weeks as some might have believed.  Since Howard's injury, the Detroit Red Wings have posted an impressive 5-1-1 record (two of those wins coming in the shootout).

Ty Conklin was leaned on, but quickly faltered and it was Joey MacDonald who came to the rescue.  In the five games that he has started, Joey Mac has allowed an average of 1.8 goals against and boasted an impressive 0.924 save percentage.

But Howard will come back...and it might be sooner than you think.

Make the jump to find out when.

howard_attacksThis comes to us from the Toronto Sun:

"Howie is starting against San Jose.  We'll see what happens there. I don't know if that means he's starting against Nashville or not, but he's starting sooner or later. You can only get so much holiday time during the regular season. It's time for him to go." --Mike Babcock

There you have it, folks - Jimmy will be back on Sunday AT THE LATEST.

Apparently, Jimmah has been seeing shots in practice for about a week now.  He's back, folks...Jimmah is back.

So what are we going to do with Ty Conklin?

I like Conks & feel bad for him, but Joey's proven himself pretty damn capable in the back up position.

Maybe if Conks gets regular playing time in GR that will help build his self-confidence up, but we can't really be worried about that. We need what's best for the team right now & Joey is it.

i hope people appreciate what joey mac has done for this club the last 2 weeks. i'm not talking about the streak either. he's given us one less thing to worry about at the trade deadline and has given us hope that if howard ever went down during the playoffs, we'd at least have a decent chance to win.

@marti783 Couldn't have said it better myself. I feel bad for Conklin as he didn't do to bad with his last stint with us, but Joey is playing way to strong. As the British would say, Conklin's been made redundant.

I personally can not wait to see Conks play down at the Van Andel. McCollum and Pearce could use a gritty veteran to help show em the ropes now that Joey is backing up Jimmy again.

What are w going to do with Conks? Simple.

We load him into a rocket ship, fire him into the Sun, and hope he doesn't manage to put that fire out.

Send Conks to GR, hope he DOESNT clear waivers, and then breathe a sigh of relief knowing that both the Wings and GR will be better off without him. Maybe he can go play adult C league with Curtis Joseph.

Send him down to grand rapids and hope he clears waivers. And if he don't, hope that jimmy or mac don't get hurt again. Or trade conks and a draft pick for nabby lol

conklin needs to go to GR. i'm sure he'll clear waivers unless a team is desperate or wanting to make an enemy of ken holland. it would do him some good to build up his confidence down there.
