Dream Scenario?

Written by Drew on .

Greg over at Puckdaddy decided to run a little vignette entitled NHL Trade Deadline Dream Scenarios: Whom do you want to go where?

First on the docket is Teemu Selanne...

The Anaheim Ducks are on an incredible roll. A preposterous roll. A roll that Bruce Boudreau would be intimidated to eat. Yet they only have a 3.8-percent chance at qualifying for the playoffs, and a loss here or there before the deadline could bring that even lower.

Selanne hasn't been thinking about "other options" during the Ducks' resurgence, but it's going to have to happen at some point. If he does decide to move, the Winnipeg Jets are the obvious, nostalgic, storybook choice ... and yet one that has about a great a shot at winning the Stanley Cup as the Sacramento Kings.

Make the jump to read on.

selanneRWIf you want to see Teemu hoist Stanley like it's a ceramic pig, then the options are limited. Maybe the Rangers? Maybe back to the Sharks? Or, maybe, skating with best buddy Valtteri Filppula and the Detroit Red Wings at the top of the conference.

Oh yes. That last one would be fun.

Selanne, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Fransen and Lidstrom on the same power play droooooool.

For most fans, seeing Selanne as a Red Wing will be blasphemy. But what if that leads to Selanne and Lidstrom posing with the Stanley Cup, eh?

Yes, yes...I cringed too when I saw that ol' Greg forgot how to spell The Mule's last name.  The ceramic pig quip was a reference to a previous PD post.

As we've seen in previous discussions, not all NOHS readers are for this...far from it.  It certainly seems that other options appear to be more attractive to our fan base.  But the price on Selanne would most likely be relatively low in comparison.  I wouldn't suspect Detroit giving up anything more than a second or later draft pick(s) to acquire Selanne's services.

Not trying to beat a dead horse here...but the trade deadline IS approaching and I thought it might be worth getting the discussion going again.

If he leaves Anaheim, my money is on him going to Winnipeg. He's already got the Cup, and he still loves the city.

Maybe we only trade picks? To bad Temmu can't just tell the Ducks organization he doesn't want to be traded in a big deal and that they either lose him at the end of season for nothing or lose him now and get at least something in return. (Hopefully picks.)

I have the same thoughts about Selanne in Red & White that I did for Modano: No thanks.

I think it would be a good deal if its the only deal that is possible. But I also think there may be better options out there. But how much is Kenny willing to give up. My bet is that Salanee could be had at a fairly bargain price because this may very well be his last year so the Duck's could get something other than just a retirement notice for him.

Hank disappears all the time and is a mediocre skater at best.

@Josh Howard "Whos to say that Nash would't fall flat on his face?"

True, the name Hossa comes to mind.

@Heathus9 Not saying your wrong... but I think you're wrong. This team is playing scary good at home and can get by on the road. We haven't even seen beast mode. Who's to say that Nash, who has pretty much NO playoff experience, wouldn't fall flat on his face? I'd pick Zetternetter over Nash given how we are playing. Now, if you proposed trading other pieces and keeping Z... I'm okay with that. You just don't take a team leader and trade them because "he's not scoring" and "isn't a strong skater". Have you watched any of the games lately? I'd say he looks pretty damn good to me.

@Heathus9 Too much of the same old even though they're winning. You need some sort of education you dolt. But I'm not giving it to you.

@Josh Howard This group needs some sort of shakeup to make a cup run. Too much of the same old same old, even though they've been winning. A 2nd round bounce isn't gonna cut it this year.

@Josh Howard My expectations are reasonable for a second line center making that kind of money. He does a lot of great things I mean, he's even won a Conn Smythe, he's a good player. Come playoffs a big power forward wouldn't hurt and I don't think we lose all that much between Nash and Hank.

@Heathus9 I was going to say that Hank brings far more to the team than points. And those things he is paid to do are not things that Nash could replace.

@Heathus9 You disappear all the time and are a mediocre commenter at best. lol Glad you came with trolling your own fanbase in mind. I actually have a writeup on Z rolling around in my head. I think your expectations if you really believe those things are far too high. The players on this team have roles... those roles shift over time. He does his job well.

No thanks.. I'd greet him if he came, but I'd not go for it. He already has a cup. Also, he's like a million years old. Yes, I realize Lidstrom is old as well... but Lids isn't being traded. What would his reason for leaving the Ducks actually be? A cup.. it couldn't be.

a guy who can light the lamp, surrounded by guys who can set him up, motivation to win it all and a right handed shot? i'd be ok with that. but i'm guessing ken holland goes for size/scoring.
