Ah Crap - Datysuk Has Knee Surgery, Out Two Weeks

Pavel Datsyuk is expected to miss two weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery today to remove some old fragments.
"Everything is real good,'' coach Mike Babcock said. "(Datsyuk) had fragment in his knee, an old thing we wanted to clear up prior to playoff time.''
Babcock said the timing gives the club an opportunity to have Datsyuk back at 100% the playoffs.
Well that's good. I suppose that is. Still, this is just a huge kick in the nuts and out of nowhere too:“He said yesterday he could feel something not right in his knee,'' Holland said. "They took an MRI, saw a fragment. They went in today, surgery is over. It was minor arthroscopic surgery. Cleaned up his ligament and he should be ready to go in a couple of weeks.''
It's going to be tough to keep up this incredible streak without the best player in the league. But I guess we'll see what the team has deep down inside, starting with tonight's game.By the way, the other good news is that Dan Cleary is back tonight.

The article seems to indicate this is an off-season surgery they are doing during the season because they have the luxury of owning 1st place. Tick-Tock: Always 3 moves ahead.

after the nausea passed, i've come to believe an injury like this could be beneficial in the long run. Player will have to step up to fill his shoes which can only be a good thing for the playoffs.

I guess its good that this didn't crop up during the playoffs, then it could have been a big concern. I'm not too worried, this is where we can show the rest of the league a bit of the depth that the wings have. LGRW
