Intent to Know: Lockout Pending?
| So during my travels yesterday - as with many days on the road - I had NHL Home Ice turned on my XM Radio. The NHLPA and the Owners sat down and talked for a little over an hour and a half yesterday about the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). After the meeting was over, Gary Bettman declared that if a new CBA was agreed upon by the September 15th deadline - that the owners will be locking the players out and we will have our third work stoppage of the Bettman Era. That means no training camp, no exibition games, and no planned start to the Regular Season for the NHL until they can come to terms. They're already talking about a shortened season....60 games? 45 games? We just don't know at this point. With a little over a month to go until they reach the deadline...one has to ask...WHY did you wait until NOW to finally sit down and chat? |
Aren't the owners the ones who put Bettman in this position and continue to give him contract extensions, etc.? I'm not exactly sure how this works.
If that is the case, then it seems like we will continue to see Bettman, because it's the owners that want to lock out the players, correct?
It's kind of BS for a team to drop 8 million per season on one player and then have the balls to say players ask for too much money. Just get rid of the cap, old NHL was better! Games with parity feel too chippy. Seems like almost all the goals need to be garbage goals nowadays.
I like how yyou point out the "why wait till now to sit down and chat?" I haven't really thought about that, but they could have started negotiations months ago ! I'm still gonna have faith though that hockey comes
