Wish We Still Had This Guy - Plus Twitter Update

Written by Chris on .

You know who I wish we had for tonight’s game?  A big tough lug who would give it all for his team and make sure to enact a little revenge if he could, all while playing solid, albeit forgettable defense.

I have a perfect guy in mind.

I know you do too.

That’s a damn shame isn’t it?

. . .

On to happier things.   Remember this post?  Yeah, where I said I would finally acquiesce to the pressures of my fellow bloggers and join Twitter if our Facebook page hit 700 likes by the playoffs (we had like 600 at the most at the beginning of March)?

Well…the results after the break:

Well low and behold you son-of-guns did it. Though it went up right to the wire, for a while I thought I was going to stay free of tweeting in my life.  But on April 6th, we pulled out 700 likes and are up to 708 now.

So here I am, on Twitter.   @stupidgoalie on the suggestion of Twig.   Hit me up if you’d like.  I’m warning you, I’m terrible at things like this (ask anyone who texts me…) but I’m going to give it a full go.

I’m at the moment trying to figure out how this thing works and who I should follow.  I’m open to suggestions.

Ok, so I've seen people talk about this the last couple of days and I know I'm in the minority but Mike Commodore?  Really?

1. I get that Babs probably didn't give him a fair shake but he's not an upgrade over White, Quincey, or Ericsson.

2. Yes, he's big and I guess could fight Weber but why?  A) Given that Weber is normally out against Pav, the likelihood of Commie being out there when Weber is, is remote at best.  B) We're assuming that Babs would even dress him for tonight's game, which we know was also unlikely.  And C) By dressing him, we're putting the focus on revenge vs. just getting a much needed win.

3. He's slow and probably a poor-man's version of Hal Gill (who also sucks).  I know people have a hard-on for Commie out here, but had it not been for some injuries, he wouldn't have even gotten into the TB Lightning lineup either.

4. And let's say that Commie was still with us, Babs did dress him, and he happened to find himself on the ice at the same time as Weber.  What's he going to do?  Skate all the way down the ice and fight him?  Does ANYBODY think that a guy who shoved a guy who's 5 inches and 45lbs smaller than him into the glass would really fight a a 6-7 defenceman so that the opposing team can exact revenge?  Not a chance.

Commie was a fun guy and seemed like a good dude.  But he's not cracking this lineup.  He's literally the 9th man in the rotation.

@DetCapC19 I can't stand Quincey as of lately.  I do think Commie is more what we need on the third pairing then #27.

@DetCapC19 Maybe, but I still like the option.   I've always thought he was this close from being a great fit as the #6 guy (think Lilja, but better).

@moorecha Yeah, I'd probably agree with that.  We just never saw enough of him this year to know for sure.  But if I were to put him in, it would be independant of the Weber incident.  It would be because I thought he was our best option at #6.

@moorecha I'll agree that Quincey's been a bit erratic (although I liked his game on Wednesday).  But, even if Commie was still here and Q was shitting the bed - who gets in?  I imagine Smith gets recalled before they put in Commodore.

@moorecha  @Reddy I didn't give in to the Twitter pressure until a couple months ago. If you follow the right people, it's actually pretty cool.

@nickbarnhart  Amen! I held out on twitter for ages, but now that I finally adopted it ive found that its actually a great way to get sports and other news all in one place.
