Red Wings Recap: 4.5.2012

Did I just write one of these? Whatever. Wings lost 2-1 to the Devils tonight. Seems to me they were just gassed after playing an OT game on the road against the Blues and just couldn't finish strong. A wasted opportunity, but if they had a day off, I think this game ends differently.

Jump for the Recap:

Hudler had a strong game. Late in the second period he made a great play down low where he muscled his way into position against a much bigger defenseman. A great pass to Homer, too.

Zetterberg is our next captain. I had my doubts earlier in the year, but he leads by example and played to the final buzzer.

I'm not going to look up who it is, but ref #8 pisses me off every time we get stuck with him. He's just terrible. Every game he does something utterly stupid. This time it was just moving the faceoff outside the zone after Bert was driven into the net. He's an idiot. I hope that at some point he realizes what a failure he is and that he stares at himself in the mirror and cries. Idiot.

I don't know, guys. This team can dominate and this team can play like crap. Hard to imagine a team as emo as this one winning it all, but we'll see. 20 games ago this was not even a question, so maybe it can get turned back on at any time.

Brodeur is still very good. I guess I have not watched them play much lately, so I just assumed he was old and slow. Maybe a bit, but he's still awesome. He made a few big saves tonight.

Next game is Saturday at 1:00 EST. Wings may not be able to finish in 4th now. It is what it is. But they can still finish strong.

Win.

Well the Wings did themselves no favors by losing this game. It probably cost them home ice in the first round, as we need Nashville to lose to the Stars who now have nothing to play for. So I ask this question to all of you at NOHS...are the Wings better off losing tomorrow to give Chicago the 5 seed (as I read the tiebreaker rules, I believe the Hawks beat us based on head to head since they would both have 39 Regulation/OT wins). Would you rather meet the Kings and Jonathan Quick or the Preds and Rinne? Both tough matchups, but I think they handle the Kings easier than the Preds. Just a thought. I hate losing to the Hawks, but in this case, it might be worth it.

@behood19 I think we should show up and play. That would mean we win our next 17 games, as we showed we could earlier this year. HOWEVER, since that apparently isn't an option for this team anymore, I don't care because I don't think it will matter for them.

The number of missed hooks and interference calls was complete bs. Brodeur was never really tested, he made every save he should have and nothing more in my opinion. They're going to be gassed in the playoffs too so they better learn to deal with it or nothing will happen.

Wings always seem to turn it up when the playoffs start, so I'm holding on to that. As it is most of the time, lots of calls that were ignored by the refs, but Wings still cannot capitalize on the power play. I'm going to chalk this one up to what was previously mentioned: fatigue. Get those hawks on Saturday boys, then lets have us some "plowfs" as number 13 says.

I wanted to see some Helm speed out there tonight.  They were skating like they had to skate home from St. Louis last night.  I understand that they were tired, but couldn't muster up even a couple of net rushes?

Ref #8 has been on my Most Wanted list for a while. I'm pretty sure he hates the Wings. Just a theory though. I just can't believe we couldn't pull this one out, we were even at HOME. I mean, come on. I pray to somewhere and someone that we win against Chicago and fix all our junk before we hit the post season. I just want to win!
