Wings Playoff Matchup Flowchart

Written by Chris on .

mule_scared_of_puckFrustrating game last night, as Twig explained so eloquently, and this leaves the Wings in the passanger seat of who we're going to play.  I had an long essay written up of the many different sitauations which could happen, but then I saw this on Reddit and figured this is a million times easier.  So thanks to redditor, HockeyPancake and the subreddit DetroitRedWings for this one.

Hit the jump to have all the situations explained in an easy to understand flow chart (even Chris Pronger can do it!):

So in four of the five situations, Detroit plays Nashville.  In 3 of those 4, Detroit finishes in 5th place.  Not a favorable situation.  Still, I'm not that worried in the end.  Playoffs are a different breed than the regular season and I think this Detroit team has what it takes.

Anything can happen in the playoffs. It worries me and excites me equally and either way I won't sleep well till it's over!

Here is what I wonder though....

Does Chicago have any reason to win?

The only one I can think of is not having to travel out west first round.

Otherwise they play Nashville on the road if they win outright.

I find this quite interesting.

@magnum9 They're not going to lose on purpose if that's what you're implying.

I'm not worried either.  I think that Blues win showed ME at least... that we could win in a playoff type atmosphere on the road.  I'm writing last night off as simply a tired performance.  We will keep pushing forward no matter what.

@Josh Howard yeah I agree. If Marty wasn't playing or if the wings didn't have such a grueling game, they would have won.
