Heading Home

Written by Chris on .

So heading back to Detroit, we can't complain.  1-1.

And, strangely, the team which has played better both games hasn't come out on top.  I didn't think Detroit played to their potential last night, but they did a few things well.

First, they took advantage of their chances.  This was simply because they didn't try to play too fancy and shot the damn puck, rather than something pretty.

Second, they swarmed their own net well.  Sure they allowed a lot of shots, but very few of those were rebound shots.  Detroit did a great job tying up sticks and getting the puck out of the zone.

Anyone notice how physical Johnny E was?  Good for the gentle giant.

Finally, I know it's been said a lot, but damn, you gotta give credit to Bertuzzi.  You know who else did?

Boom.   Ball is in our court now.  Let's do this.

Yeah, I watched it last night. I'm pretty sure the 43 was to show support for Helmer.

Did anyone else not notice that White was injured in the second period? Wings website lead story is about his foot injury. Apparently he has refused x-rays saying it isn't broken, but he had some difficulty getting the skate on and then skating well during practice today.

@ThroatShot I hope it isn't too severe, but props to him for being a man and taking the pain for the team.  Its too early to start getting screwed again by injuries, we already lost Helm.

Did anyone else catch Hank's post game for NHL Tonight. His sweatshirt had #43 on the right chest. Was he wearing Helm's or was the number put on to show support? Either way, classy move.

I hope there are a ton of Octopi flying tomorrow.

Also?  Not that he'll care, but I can't wait to hear how deafening the boos are for Weber.

I can't wait to hear the Wings crowd erupt into cheers every time we hit somebody from Nashville. There were a few hits last night by the Wings that I thought "If we were in Detroit, the fans would have been going wild!"

Annoying Moment of the Game:

Play by Play Guy saying Johan Ericsson.

 @Instinctz

Leave it to an expansion team to have a crowd chant that high school kids do during basketball games. Very original, Nahsville fans. Also, the catfish thing....really? I would be embarrassed if I rooted for a team that used high school cheers and stole ideas from other teams about throwing things onto the ice. Get some real traditions, Smashville. Please.

@Buckeye_Wings_Fan  @Instinctz  I don't think their fanbase understands throwing things on the ice. You do it to celebrate your team doing something, such as scoring a goal. They throw catfish at all these random times for no purpose. Hopeless stupidity...

@Buckeye_Wings_Fan @Instinctz Their chant actually sounds VERY similar to the UofM chant during hockey games. Every time I hear it I think they stole it directly from them. Which they probably did.
