The Future Looks Bright

Written by Chris on .

"I saw the lineup they dressed and I didn't know it was opening night," Babcock said.

Well put Mike.  Nice subtle dig at the little brother.  And he wasn’t kidding either.  Facing a Detroit team who dressed such greats as Cory Emmerton, Fabian Brunnstrom, and Chris Connor, Chicago came back with their full roster.  That means Kane, Toews, Hossa, Seabrook, Keith, etc.

This was essentially a strong AHL team vs. the Blackhawks and honestly should have been a blowout for Chicago.  But our young guys not only kept up, they almost won the game.  They kept pace with 20 Cent and friends the entire game and would have put it in overtime had there not been a bad bounce off the boards that confused old man Conklin.

Boys and girls, the Wings’ future looks nothing but bright.  Brunnstrom deserves to make this team.  Two more goals pretty much sealed the deal for the last spot on Detroit in my eyes.  Emmerton played like a star last night, despite my hesitancy to embrace him.  Even Miller Lite scored a pretty one from Connor.  Nyquist is going to be a first liner in this league in a few years.  And I love the way Smith plays the game, even if he did receive a match penalty last night for an incidental, yet unfortunate hit to the head of Ben Smith.

Honestly, I'm not sure what else Smith was supposed to do here.

So the season starts next week and Detroit is again a serious cup contender.  And from watching this preseason, no matter what happens this year, I have full confidence that the Wings will continue to be contender for years to come.  No need to pull a Chicago or Pittsburgh and tank; to use an old metaphor, Detroit doesn’t rebuild, they reload (though, note to Detroit’s tourism committee, not a good idea to use this slogan.)  And it is a great feeling to know that we have a hell of a bright future.

In Holland We Trust.   Season starts next week.  LGRW!

Not the first sloppy wandering play I've seen conks make this preseason, or ever, but hopefully this makes him think twice next time. I couldn't believe the youngsters did so well. Honestly what was the point in chicago icing that team? I mean are they that desperate?

I unfortunately missed the game due to class, but from the post game break downs I've read, it does sound like the guys did great.

I was thinking the same thing when I started realizing the caliber of players Chicago was putting out there... Very impressed that the young guns held their own, damn fine effort. And oh, could you imagine the shit talking if they had pulled it out...

@moorecha he did come up huge on a more than a few break aways though... but you're right, his senior moments need to be kept in check...
