Thoughts on Nashville vs Detroit
Today has been a great day to be a fan of Michigan sports. There's basically no way I can have a frown on my face today. I tried earlier just to see how unhappy I could make myself look.
This is how it turned out:
Yup. That's as unhappy as I managed to look today. It's been a good one. So to finish off the day, let's take a look at the things that stood out the most in tonight's game:
Didn't Erat say not too long ago that Zetterberg was overrated? Was Erat even playing tonight? (Hint: He was, he's just overrated.)
Whether the Wings give up 15 shots or 40 shots, Howard will be sharp. Not an All-Star though, apparently.
Find me one player in the NHL who hustles more than Helm. Search is over. There is none.
Red Wings power play is great when it gets setup. A team that pressures Detroit at the blueline has a much better chance of killing penalties than one that allows entry and tries to keep Detroit along the boards.
Tough break for Eaves tonight. Seemed to be playing well despite not having his legs tonight. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery.
Tootoo reminds me of a bag full of trash in that I don't like bags full of trash or Jordan Tootoo. I DO like seeing Brad Stuart toss Tootoo around like a rag doll though.
I have to say, it's great that the best player in hockey is back. Good for the entire NHL. Yes, after what seemed like ages, Pavel Datsyuk is back and playing great hockey at both ends of the ice.
That's your recap. What did you see? What did I miss? (Besides Ericsson covering nothing on Nashville's only goal. Kind of tired of piling on the guy.)
Haha, i'm glad i'm not the only one staring daggers at Ericsson when he's on the ice when a goal is scored. I want to believe he will some day be worth the contract we gave him but I just don't think it's going to happen.
It seems like everyone has the fog cleared out of their heads and now we can't be stopped. I have really liked the line combinations Babcock has put up the past few games, each one's chemistry is amazing. It's nice to see Bert contributing and now Z is coming out of his funk. I still do not like Ericsson. I feel every partner he is given to is weaker and has to work twice as hard. He just is not very impressive. Definitely not deserving of that contract. Helm will be a top six forward next year. He deserves no less. Jimmy is awesome. Don't forget to vote him and vote often!!!
Yeah, Kronner is babysitting now. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think he has a point since the pairingsnwere adjusted.
Local news just reported Eaves with a broken jaw. Man, that sucks. I hope he's really okay & has a speedy recovery.

Loved the third line tonight. This is where Clearly belongs, he's not a top two line guy.
I actually loved all the lines tonight.
You have to give the Nashville rookie or player a hand. That is the kind of sportsmanship that everyone should have.
I would say that Red Wing Hockey is back if they play like they did tonight every night. That is what makes all the other teams tremble in fear.
As to the baby train guy .... ya that is the kind of thing that is always funny when the wings know when not to fight.... was close to a penalty call. Still I miss McCarty and the fights we would see in the 90's. But knowing when to fight is better.

I think how well we've been playing lately distracts me from how mediocre Ericsson is at the time being. I didn't even notice he was on the ice for that goal.
If the stupid sharks lose tonight, we take the top in the west for the first time since the Great Goal Famine of 2011... So go canucks, I guess.
The obvious would be Flipper, that guy is hot as shit... And has been playing some damn fine hockey lately... ZING.
