Red Wings vs Blues Preview and Open Thread
I was at a flea market recently and saw a framed picture of Wayne Gretzky for sale. He was wearing a St. Louis Blues jersey. I got to thinking, of all the great passes he made in his career, his one touch setup to Steve Yzerman is my all-time favorite. He barely played there, but that trade cost the Blues their future and it only got them to the second round.
With luck like that, it's no wonder we always look to St. Louis when we need a couple points and an ego boost. But it hasn't always ended well. The last time the Red Wings played the Blues, the final score was Detroit not many and St. Louis a trillion. Or something like that. It was ugly. No Howard, no Osgood, no effort. Our third and fourth string goalies played poorly behind 18 skaters that just didn't care. Their minds were elsewhere. If they had played hard and pulled out the victory, game 7 against San Jose would have been in Detroit. Oh what could have been...
Tonight the Red Wings are going to play a full 60 minutes. They got off to a slow start on their home stand, but finished strong. Now they need a strong start on the road.
Halak won't be playing tonight. He needs to keep his GAA below 4.00 if he's going to have a shot at the All-Star Game and a team like Detroit could really hurt his chances. Instead, the Wings will face Brian Elliot who actually stops pucks from going in. It's crazy.

White is out with a broken face after using it to keep the Red Wings up by one midway through Saturday's game. Smith will be finished with his suspension for the head shot he gave some guy from Chicago a long time ago. Emmerton happened to be on the ice when Miller scored, so he'll play while Brunnstrom sits.Prediction? I predict that I won't predict the score, because the last two times I did that, the good guys lost to the bad guys.

Happened to coast onto ESPN to look at the recap. I went into the conversation thread and a wonderfully stupid penguins fan happened to find his way onto a thread that had nothing to do with the penguins. He simply had this to say:

not playing well tonight. lazy play on the 5 minute power play gave the blues momentum. howard keeping us in the game.
Geez, so far this game has been slow, sloppy and pretty boring at times. PP needs to get it's thumb out it's ass!
