Time to take a look at Detroit's prospects around the world. Most are in Grand Rapids, but others are playing junior hockey still or are over in Europe. The Griffins have not had a great season so far, but some of the guys who will be joining the Wings in a year or two are doing well.
Only the AHL stats provided +/- ratings. I would have expected a bit more from Smith if he not been going through his suspension drama for the last 6 weeks. Once he gets settled in, look for him to score a lot more. Tatar is also having a slow start, but is only -2 despite not scoring much and playing on a poor team. Sheahan has had a decent start in Notre Dame. Last season he started off terrible and finished strong. Hopefully this year he starts off decent and finishes stronger.
I know Joey MacDonald is hardly a prospect, but I wanted to include his stats to show where the rest of the guys are in relation to him. Right now, McCollum is struggling. He did play well in one start for the Griffins (GAA 2.04 SV% .923), despite losing, but has had average numbers in 5 starts in Toledo. Just remember goalies take longer to develop and just 25 months ago, Jimmy Howard had very few fans in Detroit.
Let me know if this is something you all want to see more of. I could make this a weekly post, monthly, neverly... Just give the word.
Well in NHL 11 Mrazek turns into a 97 rated goalie.
Then he asks for 7 million and screws your whole team over.
...yes I'm aware nhl11 is not real.
Neverly made me laugh, but monthly seems about right. Only 1 dman coming down the pipe? That's unsettling, and it looks like Jurco has the hot hands right now, how can that leauge he's in he major and junior at the same time? Whacky French Canadians...
In Canada, we have Junior A and Major Junior A. Kind of confusing, but its cool once you get used to it. Guys like Gomez, Turris, and even Brendan Smith all played Junior A before getting drafted. Unconventional, but it's probably what allowed Smitty to slip to us.
there are other prospects, but i focused on the top 10-ish. will expand as i learn more about them.
and yeah, spellcheck didn't flag neverly while blogging, but does in the comments. thought that was funny.
@Atsinganoi I think every couple of weeks/monthly is a good time frame as well.
