Say It Ain't So...Rafalski Not the Only One?
Written by Chris on .

First instinct is no way this is true, but thinking about it, it is possible. He takes a beating on a daily basis and you know he's gotta have some ridiculous nagging injuries from the years.
Rafalski's leaving is going to hurt this team, I don't have any question. However this would hurt even more. The Wings really only have one or two power forwards on the team and Homer certainly is the heart of those.
Now again, I don't have any reason to think this is true other than this person seems to be more reasonable than Eklund, but figured I'd pass it along.
so now they need more defense.
can they trade hudler for a defensemen who hasn't really worked out? or leino? ha jk
that OT goal is the result of 3 playoff rounds worth of fortunate bounces coming back and biting the sharks in the ass. you can't win the cup on dives and bounces alone.
If he doesn`t retire, I can see him taking some time off at the beginning of the year. If we can trace it back to an injury, we can possibly put him on LTIR and not have the cap hit. But, his body could definitely do without an 82-game schedule.
Nope. 35+ contract. LTIR or retirement the cap hit doesnt go away. LTIR just gives a roster spot.
@craterburnsyou That`s not even close to being accurate. Being 35+ only affects retirement, demotions, and buyouts. LTIR is teh same for any player at any age. Yes - In the event a player is placed on LTIR, his cap hit still counts toward the team's overall cap payroll. Relief only comes if replacing the player's salary pushes the team's cap payroll to date over the cap. So, if Homer gets put on LTIR, that gives us $1.875M of replacement salary. And of course, come playoff time, the cap is out the window and we can have whomever we want out there.
How about the possibility of the cap being raised to $60-63.5M?!? Obviously I think we need to keep Homer, regardless of his age there is still no one in the league that does it better than him. Yet having a larger cap could help add another forward if they choose to go in that direction.
@mendiola_tj I think the Wings could look at a big name guy, like maybe even Parise. Hell, they could be in the Richards hunt now...
The only creditbility that @hockeybreak has with me is that he is being followed
on Twitter by the likes of Darren Pang, etc. People who are immersed in the NHL.
He is somewhat reliable at best. But, it doesnt seem like
Homer's style though to leave the Wings stranded with his cap hit. Here's to hoping its nothing but false info. Good to post it though, it really does stimulate some good conversations!
Don't know if it's true, but as much as I'd hate to see him go, Homer hasn't been nearly as effective this past year - due in part to the tendency of refs to call no-goals if he's someplace in the building... but mostly because he just hasn't been as dominant in front of goaltenders as he has in years past. It seems like Babcock has tried shifting his role on the ice, but whatever the case, he just wasn't the presence he's been in years past.
idk aboot that. seemed to me there were plenty of times that "so and so never saw the shot." whether homer touched it or not. a net front presence is needed and he is still the best at it.
@Twig I think Redman said it best... Nobody scores more goals the day after the game than Homer... The man is a legend and a beast, I have to completely disagree with him not being as effective anymore, trust me, as soon as he's gone, once a game you'll think, fuck! If only homer was there to setup shop...
Considering some of the other BS @hockeybreak has tweeted ("It is very likely that following the playoffs the NHL will announce the Coyotes are moving to Winnipeg, will not be called Jets."), I wouldn't trust anything coming from him.
I'm not sure about this one... I would like to believe homer feels another cup is defiantly within reach next season, for him not to play out his contract just seems wrong, not gonna by into this at all has to be a rumor made up off the raffi news.
