This must have been taken in warmups because he's never taken a slapshot in a game.We have a bunch of season recap/comments/thoughts/bs posts to write over the next few days, but I just read this and couldn't believe my eyes..
Jonathan Ericsson and Ruslan Salei could be gone.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Ericsson turned down a multiyear offer worth $2 million a season. He improved this season but hasn’t been nearly as effective as he was during his breakout performance in the 2009 playoffs.Listen, I like Johnny, I thought he actually played decently over the year, much better than previous years (though not up to his potential). But then I read this and literally stopped in my tracks. He turned down 2 million a season? I'm stunned he was offered that much in the first place. Who the heck does he think he is? Is the world collapsing in on itself?
I was actually somewhat impressed with his performance in the playoffs (probably because my body automatically tenses whenever it senses he is on the ice), but I think the headline summed up my thoughts exactly. He was terrible in the regular season.
There's not even enough cap room to pay him that much if Lidstrom stays and we want to resign everyone.
I'm not as opposed to bringing Ericsson back as most, but turning down $2 million a season is unbelievably stupid, for lack of a better word.
Good, Salei and Shitbox were wastes of roster space that could be much better used. We could probably sign a cone and a broken pitching machine for much less.
Perhaps all this talk of what a Swedish Pylon he is has him thinking along the lines of an "Andres Lilja." Just maybe...
Are you serious?! First of all, I'm saying that for the amount of money we offered him...secondly, He must be on crack to think that he's going to get more than that anywhere else!
Don't underestimate the stupidity of Brian Burke. We could see him in a Leafs uni next season. @Brent_Philipps
