Looks like Datsyuk is suddenly back to his old self.
Truthfully, LamontCranston, Reddy, DannyG, and BLOODRED joined in at some point or another. But also truthfully, someone turned the switch on inside of Datsyuk and the dude just went off. The Versus crew were constantly commenting on how he just wasn't himself and his "heavy stick" had become lighter and at some point, we turned the sound off of the TV. But Pavs ended up leading the way with three assists and +2 rating...despite having an injured wrist.
"He just amazes us every single night. He’s a world-class player." --Jimmy Howard
Speaking of amazing, how about that Jimmy Howard? I don't think enough can be said about his performance in this post-season. In just this round, he's boasted a .924 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.80. In those five games, he's face less than 35 shots only once - which is crazy. Last night, the Sharks fired 42 shots on the Detroit netminder with only three making it past him.
"Howie really stole us the game tonight," Danny Cleary said. "He played huge, a lot of big saves." --Danny Cleary
Those quotes taken from Khan(!).
Another big game came from Little Nik Jr. who was singled out by Ryan Clowe after game four and followed it up by laying out Ryan Clowe...
I scared the hell out of The Future Mrs. Nightmare on Helm Street with my "OHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" at the sight of that magnificent and CLEAN check. So you wanted to be line up WITH him or BY him? Next time, make sure he understands you fully, Ryan - you know that English is second language.
No official word on The Mule's ankle. He's being re-evaluated today.
Holy shit!!!! Just went out to Red Robin for dinner with the wife and some friends. So I get the check and and our total is $38 something and I didn't feel like doing the math so I figure $5 ought to cover it. I realize half way through writing the total that it comes out to $43.43. Come on.... Really???? I know it's stupid, and I'm not about to jinx us but man it made me smile!!!!
Good news. Now to steal the phrase from Jimmy's mask, inspired by the passengers of Flight 93.
@DetCapC19 ding ding ding ding ding
Something interesting I`m noticing here:
1. I get that Babs wants to control Lidstrom's minutes and thus doesn't play him on the PK. But when our PK was shitting the bed, was it not time to sacrifice those minutes and put him out there? I get that our PK has re-established itself these past 2 games, but he doesn't even have Nik out there for the final minute to protect a 1-goal lead. Has Babs lost faith in Nik defensively? Am I reading too much into this?
2. Pav's hurt and as a result, we had to move Fil to center for faceoffs and have a 3rd line consisting of Abby, Miller, and Homer. Would Modano not have been a better fit given that we needed a faceoff man and some offence? My brother suggested that given that Babs was going to a 3-line game, Miller was likely in for the PK and an occasional shift. I suppose that makes sense, but explain this:
3. We're getting our ass kicked on faceoffs. Pav can't take them, Fil is 48% while Helm is in the 30s. Why not let Draper take a few draws? Why are we benching him in 3rd periods when he's as good as a faceoff man as we have on this team? He can still skate, and he's smart enougn to get off the ice when he needs to.
The one thing all 3 of these players have in common is that they're all 40 and above. Does Babs have an issue with 40-year olds? Am I taking this WAAAAAY too seriously?
I mean, we forced a Game 6 and showed some serious balls last night, so who am I to take issue with any of this. I just find it odd.
@DetCapC19 Just re watched the last few minutes and Nick came off 50 sec shift with 1:10 left and then Kronner and Stu got stuck out there until :14. Then time out. So I have no Idea why Nick wasn't out there for the last 14. Good catch.
@BLOOD RED Nice work. Any chance you could check out Game 4 and find out why he wasn`t on for the last minute in that one?
@BLOOD RED @DetCapC19@blood Well I tried to post and it shows on the main page there there are 21 comments, but once I come into the comments it says there are 20. I know I saw it posted...so let's try again.I had posted that I thought we iced the puck right at the end and thus couldn't change and put Lidstrom on but maybe i'm wrong.
@DetCapC19@blood Sorry. Already erased. That is very weird though.
@DetCapC19 On the Nick thing, he's no spring chicken anymore and PK minutes are tough, but you're right. If we're losing and on the PK in an elimination game, give me Nick. And as for the last minute, I'd have to check the DVR, but If Nick had a long shift in the final 2 or 3 minutes then you gotta think , even with the time out, maybe a younger kronner's gonna have better legs. Just a thought. I agree completely with the drapes thing though. I think faceoffs have cost us two games so far. Not just percentage but situational losses. We have to change that statistic and maybe drapes and mo are the answer.
@DetCapC19 The good news is that game 6 is at home so Babs will have the last change. I hope he uses it to his advantage, it seems like he just rolls 3 lines all the time.
@DannyG I would disagree with that. Our 4th line plays around 10-12 mins a game (some of that on the PK). Compare that to Sj where their 4th plays 4:30 a game. But, Babs does go to 3 lines in the 3rd most games.
@D.M.N @DannyG Fair enough. But, how do you explain not playing Lidstrom on the PK or in the last minute of the game. That clearly has nothing to do with monitoring his minutes. I`m not trying to second guess Babs. But, Nik`s the best D-man in the world. Why is he not playing in the most critical situations?
@DetCapC19 I think you bring up some valid points, especially about Draper not taking the faceoff.
I'm really starting to think it's Mo time. From what I saw from the Mule last night, I really don't think a day off is gonna be enough. So it's Mo or Happy and I really think it's Mo's turn, but since Babs hasn't put him in yet, I doubt he will now. We'll see.
I'm still smiling from that game... One Game at a time boys! Tie it up it HOCKEYTOWN!!! Defiance!!! LGMFRW!!!
That was truly a game changer and just an all around beautifull sight. Carefull what you wish for Clowe you douche nozzel. The bad thoughts were starting to creep into the back of my mind and then BAM!!! A goal and a clean KRON-WALL on the perfect target. At that point I knew it was fate. And what can you possibly say about Jimmah!!! I don;t like relying on a goalie to steal games but it sure feels great to know that we have one who is capable of doing so. Like I said last night. Thank you boys for not rolling over. Any other team would be reserving their tee time today. Not us, not this year. To quote twig, "DEFIANCE".
