Frustrated with daily call-ups for the past month, the Detroit Red Wings have called up the entire Grand Rapids Griffins AHL squad to play against the Chicago Blackhawks today. With Valtteri Filppula out with the flu, the Wings originally were going to call up Cory Emmerton, but decided that they were enviably going to recall everyone in Hockeytown West eventually, so they decided just to recall the entire team. Todd Bertuzzi, one of the few healthy Red Wings, was overheard saying that he was going to enjoy his time off by finally figuring out the rules to Hungry Hungry Hippos.
The Detroit Griffins will be wearing the traditional Red and White in today's match-up. In stranger news, Derek Meech will be unable to play due to the fact that he's handcuffed himself to Jakub Kindl's locker, and was found muttering to himself that he was never going back to Grand Rapids alive.
(Why didn't they just call up the older Filppula?)
