By now, I'm sure you've all at least heard of the craziness between the Penguins and the Islanders over the weekend. If you haven't....check it out.
Crazy, right? Here is the punishment that dished out by the NHL:
- New York Islanders fined $100,000 for inability to control their players
- New York Islanders Matt Martin was suspended four games for his sucker punch to Max Talbot
- New York Islanders Trevor Gillies was suspended nine games for his hit to Tangradi
- Pittsbirgh Penguins Eric Goddard was suspended ten games for coming off the bench
Here's what Mario Lemieux had to say:
"The NHL had a chance to send a clear and strong message that those kinds of actions are unacceptable and embarassing to the sport. It failed."
But wait, there's more:
"It was painful to watch the game I love turn into a sideshow like that. If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to rethink whether I want to be part of it."
Good thing he didn't feel that way right before they drafted Rosby, or this franchise might be in Kansas City right now. My thoughts on this are simple:
Shut up, Mario. With guys like Eric Goddard and Matt Cooke on your team - your hands aren't exactly clean on this...especially given the fact that no one has more fighting majors than Pittsburgh this year.
