Just kidding about the title. Why, did I get your hopes up with that title? Was there a moment in which you, just for an instant, thought you could respect our current playoff series opponent or their “fans”? Don't hold your breath waiting for them to make an intelligent comment about their little “rivalry” they think they have going. By the way, a rivalry, by definition, is a mutual and shared contempt for one another that uses competitive spirit and a certain level of fear (dare I say respect? Colorado memories remind me that I dare not) of and the humiliation involved in, not so much losing, but allowing your hated opponent to win. That's a definition straight from my brain, if you were gonna check for a source.
Yet, none of this definition applies to the Phoennipeg Jetotes(TM Me). But they insist. And you all know damn well what happens to our enemies when they insist upon some trivial fact that doesn't affect the game but is intended to help build their motivation and ease their fears of playing to superior level of competition. We remind them. We send a message: We are the Detroit Red Wings, you are not.
Anyway, long story short, my father (yes, thee Mr. Sullivan) told me he heard on one of the phoenix radio stations that a caller was buggered about the ubiquitous mass of Red Wings faithful that turn up to cheer their team on at Joe Louis West, Jobing.com Arena. He alleges that the caller, some “young kid,” which by my Dad's definition means younger than me, said he would likely “throw a snake” on a Red Wings fan when the series shifts to phoenix. Kind of reminds me of a beauty Tyler and Brent dished to us last year. Tyler's exile of his writing brilliance be damned, here's the video:
“Fans.” There's not much to respect about these people. So please, for the love of Datsyuk, Yzerman, Howe and all other things Holy in Lord Stanley's Lore, give them no quarter and suffocate them to the point their 28th best in the NHL attendance rethink why they even bothered to begin watching hockey last week in the first place.
#@$% I hate the playoffs. Can anyone tell?
"Excuse me um Red Wing fans um I dunno we were kinda thinking that maybe um when we play you in Phoenix that maybe um you could I dunno not support your team by not wearing your primary color? Maybe? ....please?" - Phoenix "fans" a.k.a. Gary Bettman
Any one read this article above? It's a phoenix blog begging Wings fans if they do go to jobber arena to wear white... Sad shit really..
