Quotes of Anger/Motivation
Written by Drew on .
"They beat us last year, ended our season. That in itself should have us a little fired up and wary. They beat us three of four times this year. So it’s up to us." --Mike BabcockThat quote (and more) via Khan(!). Babbles is probably out for a little personal revenge of his own, having lost to his young padawan learner last year.
As for the rest of the team, I had hoped that Detroit was angry about the way last year went against San Jose - not just because they lost, but the way that it happened. Well, it's confirmed...
"You can argue the calls, but the fact is, we have to be better in that area." --Brad Stuart
I could have sworn that San Jose had 18 powerplays in those first two games, but Khan(!) notes that San Jose was 4-16 on the PP combined in Games One and Two. Regardless, Detroit getting more than 15 minor penalties in two games is ludicrous.
Danny Cleary took an even more politically correct point of view on last year's series...
"It’s in the back of everybody’s mind. No one feels good about getting knocked out, no matter what round it is. They played better for sure, but there were a lot of one-goal games, a lot of missed opportunities. It’s a good opportunity for us to prove ourselves again. They’re a good team, it’s going to be a good series." --Danny Cleary
Is it possible for a team to actually play better than their opponent and still lose? You bet your sweet bippy. If you consider the vast amounts of power plays that San Jose had last season, and the fact that they won those games by only one goal in most games...then yeah, Detroit was the better team - but didn't come out on top.
Jimmy Howard agrees with Mike Babcock that the Sharks will see a motivated opponent this time around:
"They did end our season last year. I think it’s going to push us." --Jimmah!
Hopefully, it pushes them hard. I want to crush this San Jose team and silence all these idiots who seem to think that Detroit is the team that has to prove itself to San Jose that squeaked by us in last year's play-offs. And no, I have NO PROBLEM AT ALL saying that San Jose "squeaked by us" in a series that ended 4-1. It's just the truth, people - no matter what Versus/NBC tells you.
You getting fired up yet? Can you tell that I am?
I don'tthink it was a squeek by: Both teams are honestly a good match-up.
Sorry about your troll, not all SJ Hockey fans are Douches. I'm sure that applies to both sides of this argument.
Truth is, Brad is a cool guy (whom still lives in San Jose in the summer), and most of these guys pal-out together in the off season.
I'm sure we can agree on one thing: both teams have something to prove, and as a result we're going to benefit from an epic series.
@bleedteal2010 It does and you're welcome here whenever bleedteal2010. Good luck, but not too much of it.
Why is anyone giving this guy any attention? It was a squeak by. If you are so blinded by your inferiority complex that you can't look objectively at an obviously skewed number of calls, you are no hockey fan. You are just another yuppie bandwagon jumper. If you were a hockey fan you would not act in such an immature manner.
At the moment I live in Vancouver and you remind me of the many bandwagon jumping tourists and foreign workers who leap all over the canucks without any knowledge of the game or traditions.
Anyway discussing joke teams and perennial playoff chokers bores me, take care.
"Arguing over the internet is like running in the special olympics, even if you win, youre still retarded"
You live in Vancouver yet, you are a WingerDingers fan? I may be wrong in that assumption, but wouldn't that make you the bandwagon jumper?
Any-who, I don't know why I need to justify that I'm not, because, I could not care less about you, and I know that I'm a true fan. Because like you said, the Sharks are chokers, and who would stick with a bunch of Choke artists? oh wait me! Any-who I'm not going to argue about my loyalty, or which team is better, we will let the teams speak for themselves, and in two weeks time, i'll be back here to say: "Told ya so!"
Cant blame the refs dude, red wings fans have 0 class (not that I do!)
If I was a bandwagon jumper I'd be loving the Canucks since I live in Vancouver yes? I think you may be wrong in your assumption. I don't know why you feel you need to justify anything to me either but for some reason you do seem to care what I think or you wouldn't be wasting your precious time replying to me.
Anyway of you go to the games, enjoy, and remember at 7:00 tomorrow go to the big cold place where they play with the sticks and little black thingy, not the place where they are all really tall and bounce the orange ball, or is that the same place? I don't care.
@Reddy Liking the team of the city you live in does not make you a bandwagon, liking the best team consistently in the NHL (Detroit) makes you one. That aside, I can not care less that you're not a bandwagon jumper, good luck tonight, you'll need it!
Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but why do I get the strange feeling Stevie Y will be watching the Stanley Cup Finals as his team faces "his team"?
Everybody is counting the Lightning out in this round, and idiots are easily counting the Red Wings out in this round, as well, referring to the Sharks' "depth" - as if the Red Wings aren't deep (it's been a LONG time since they haven't been deep, but I digress).
I say the experts are blinded by their own biases, and this will be an interesting playoffs. I almost cringe at the scenario where Yzerman is sitting in the opposing side's luxury box, battling us for the Cup, but imagine the drama and emotion!
@LeeLorenzSr i started thinking that as soon as I heard he was rented to the bolts ( he will be back)... Even worse to me though is Yzerman's name engraved into the cup not under the Red Wings name... That brings a pit in stomach and tears to my eyes..
@D.M.N Stevie seems to have brought some of the aura of the Red Wings' organization to Tampa Bay...From what I've seen, the play with class. I can't see any easy way to "hate" them... but remember, it's the East, and if they manage to win the conference finals, beating the Red Wings on their first trip to the SCF is not terribly likely.
In 5 years, your young guns like helm, will be a lot better! But don't forget the older guys, will your team be as good defensively without the Lidstrom?
@LeeLorenzSr I agree completely with you that this year would be unlikely but within the next 5 years, it's possible... Its a double edged knife, I wish Stevie all the success but wish it was under the Red wings...
"You can argue the calls, but the fact is, we have to be better in that area." --Brad Stuart
Clearly he knew that you guys made mistakes, and you lost as a result of them.
@DustinWenus I think what he was trying to say is there is no point in arguing something out of your control, (bullshit calls) but if you can fix the legit calls than the Wings will be better for it...
Now don't you have a bridge to guard...
"We have to be beter in that area"
They need to improve is what he is saying to be more disciplined.
ALSO - Just saying
This came up on my San Jose Sharks Fanfeedr, so I had no Idea I was walking into this rubbish trap.
Well yeah, I read it and commented, when you guys started up with me, I had to defend my team!
And all the emails going to my phone are starting to piss me off, lol. Not to say its not fun!
How can this article have 4 stars? It blames a loss on penalties, when they are the teams fault. Sure the Dingers are solid, but excuses are unjustified if they could have been prevented.
@DustinWenus How do you prevent getting high sticked in the face and getting a penalty for it? How do you prevent a guy like Setoguchi diving all over the place?
Girls girls girls, relax!
I never said it wont be different, and obviously it was not easy, no playoff matchup is. As much as the WingerDingers have improved, so have the Sharks if not more. I mean Couture helped put you guys in a ditch in his first games playing, now hes up for rookie of the year! AND have you seen CLOWE lately? Talk about a monster, you guys wont win a single battle along the boards, no team ever does. Niemi had an amazing record toward the end of the year, but I agree is blowing it in the playoffs, which is one of my only concerns. The others being Dany Heatley stepping up and getting his spark back, and Pavel Datsyuk being...well... godly.
Will it be a blood bath? no.
Will it be the best series of the playoffs? FUCK YEAH.
Will the sharks win? Yes.
But you guys will put up a fight, that or we smoke you. But the WingerDingers are not winning this series.
Did I mention the redwing destroyer, and my personal favourite, Jumbo Joe....
....PAVELSKI!
You guys don't know whats coming!
@DustinWenus You said the Sharks disposed of the Wings with on effort. And as good as Couture and Clowe are, Filpulla had 5 pts, Hudler, Cleary, and Bert all had 3, and have you seen HELM lately?
I have hes quite the speedster, but are you aware that after the all-star break Marc-Edouard Vlasic has the highest +/- of all players in the NHL?
@DetCapC19 @D.M.N What? I bought a schultz jersey last year cause he led in +/-, I see nothing wrong with that!
@D.M.N @DustinWenus Went to the store to pick one up - all sold out. Should have known. No way a guy who leads the league in +/- after the All-Star break would still have any jerseys left in stock. Hopefully they`ll bring some more in prior to Vlasic leading the Sharks to the Cup.
@DetCapC19 @DustinWenus I just bought a Valsic jersey based on this info... Hall of famer for sure!
@DustinWenus Really?!?!?! Best +/- in the league?!?!?!? I have officially been converted. If SJ loses another game the rest of the playoffs, colour me surprised. How can they lose if Vlasic lead the league in +/- after the All-Star Break? How are more people not talking about this? This is unbelievable intel. I hope Babcock and his staff have taken this stat into consideration because if not, this is going to be a quick series. REAL quick. Damn...
@DustinWenus Seriously DustinPenis (yeah I went there). No Effort? Its dumb comments like that that kill any credibility you may have had. DMN makes a great point - only in SJ is 8 wins considered a playoff success. And only dumbass fans brag about it.
Obviously there is no convincing you, I'll let my team do it for me. However remember last year the sharks were first(as usual) and played the avalanche. Same shit, it seemed as though they would be upset by a complete underdog, but they won it, and then SMOKED detroit no effort. Obviously this is a deeper team, I am worried about Niemi's performance, but thats about it. Datsyuk will be stopped by the train that is Douglas Murray. Stanley cup is coming to san jose this year.
@DustinWenus Jeezus man! I will say this, all bias aside, SJ is going to be a serious test but I really believe that if the wings carry any of what they showed in round one in to this matchup, then you have to admit it will be totally different than last year. Have you ever heard of the hangover that comes from a long playoff run( obviously you've never seen it first hand... rim shot)? Two years straight of final appearances, a long physical first round, injuries, and some horrid officiating. That's what happened last year. You guys did what you were supposed to do in those circumstances so i'll give you that much. THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT!!!!! So if you really believe what you are saying then I really feel sorry for you because this is going to be very hard for you to watch. Besides, you're high if you think that the sharks are a favorite for the cup even if they somehow beat the wings. Just hide all the sharp objects in your house for the rest of your playoff viewing.
Sharks - Redwings should be the stanley cup final.
They are unbelievably sick, and if the Sharks win whos gonna stop them?
The Canucks? I highly doubt it, especially with the amount of shots the sharks take, Lou's got nothing.
@DustinWenus "and then SMOKED detroit no effort" lol... a little more effort was used then Chicago needed in the WCF right? only a sharks fan would take 8 victories in the playoffs as a positive...what a joke...
and what constitutes "deeper" White and Niemi? You just said Niemi worries you? And Blake was way better than Ian White... oh wait sharts got Wellwood... at least he’ll bring revenue to the McDonalds’ in the Detroit area...
@DustinWenus your logic is passing of time... everyone is better hence deeper... you lost me... and Nabby 2.0??? 3.99 GAA and a .863 % ... thats more like nabby beta testing
Deeper - Ian White(I agree Blake was amazing, but he just didnt have the legs at 40 years old that White has)
A far more talented Torey Mitchell
A tougher Setoguchi
A working Joe Thornton
A more monster like Ryan Clowe
A quicker more proficient Douglas Murray
Evgeni Nabokov 2.0
Wellwood has clearly proven himself as a talented winger on the Pavelski line.
Who knows?
Maybe Ben Eager will get more ice time(I doubt it, but id love to see him fuck up one of your young guns, did you see Cliffords face the game after Eager was done with him? WOW)
NOHS... Now with Trolls! Come on back after Game 4 Wenus... see how much fire you got left...
Holy hell wenus!!!! I'll say this, u got balls man. You're gonna come on a redwings blog and talk S##T. Well you must think that a short handed LA team is a better playoff team than us if you think that you're gonna sweep us!!!! You should be shaking in your green and black banana hammock because this is gonna be a fuching blood bath. I'm not gonna say a word about last year. But you must be be a retard if you watched two seconds of the wings first round and you're not nervous as hell. If you really believe the words that you wrote than forget bias, you hockey IQ is on par with Simple Jack. Good luck in round two buddy.
Referencing Tropic Thunder takes intelligence my friend!
I watched the Winger Dingers, and the Sharks, and the sharks were absolutely destroyers, with passing like ive never seen before. They were shut down by Quick, lets see Howard do the same!
Least penalized team in the league takes 18 penalties in 2 games doesnt seem off to you? How about when Franzen gets cut up on a high stick but instead hes the one who ends up with the penalty? And seriously, you get 16 powerplays in 2 games and come out with 1 goal wins, that`s pretty sad. You give the Wings 16 PPs and 2 full 2-man advantages and those games are blowouts (like game 4).
4 Losses and 1 Win does not make you the better team, taking undisciplined penalties is your own teams fault. Learn the facts. It will happen again, but this year logan is no rookie, and our depth is, well... deeper.
@DustinWenus
Why don't you go back to a Sharts blog so you can all tell each other over and over " we are not a bunch of choke artists!!! we are not a bunch of choke artists!!!". Or at least wait till you win one before you sound off to the guys with 11.
