Wings went up 2-0 early and its easy to think that this game was a cakewalk for our tender. It wasn't. I haven't seen Howard look this good in net since his 50 some save win over LA last year. He was quick, both with his feet and his gloves. Rebounds, with the exception of the second goal, were sticking to him. His edge control, which he sometimes struggles with, was great last night.
At the beginning of the series, every single pundit pick the Yotes' goaltending as the one area where they exceeded the Wings. Turns out that that might be the Wings' best asset this series.
Jimmy Howard GP 3 W 3 L 0 GAA 2.33 S% .923
Ilya Bryzgalov GP 3 W 3 L 0 GAA 4.11 S% .881
Bryzgalov has looked weak in almost every aspect of his game. Lateral movement has been slow, he hasn't been able to track the puck well, and hasn't battled hard at all. This is reflected in every stat. Best Russian in the series my ass.
So in conclusion, as a great man once said:
Jimmy Howard for President of Space.
Howard shouldn't have to be that great. The team is getting 4 goals a game. Yet he still has to make ridiculous saves.
Howard was seeing beach balls last night... Helm, Abby, Miller were also tearing it up, made me feel good about the future of the Wings. And I hate to nit pick but those stats show both goalies with 3 wins... Blasphemy!
