From Bob "Duffman" Duff of the Windsor Star:
The Detroit Red Wings have invited 64 players to training camp in Traverse City, Mich. for the 2010-11 National Hockey League season, including Windsor Spitfires forward Stephen Johnston, a 2008 draft pick of the Wings who was not signed by last June’s deadline and became a free agent. Other interesting names on the list include former Wings tough guy Aaron Downey, looking to make a comeback after sitting out last season, and forward Chris Minard, whom Spitfires will remember was the Owen Sound player that Windsor’s Jeff Kugel chased around the ice in a futile attempt to fight him, part of Kugel’s infractions during that October 1998 game that led to his life suspension from the Ontario Hockey League. Detroit’s main training camp runs Sept. 18-21.
So we invited the guy who wouldn't fight as opposed to the dude that chased him around the ice? That must have been wild to see. But I guess Kenny figured if Aaron "There Will be Blood" Downey is showing up, we could do without the former Spitfire Psychopath.
God, I would love to get up to Traverse City for the main camp a la George Malik of Snapshots...but I've got a title to defend in Grand Rapids. In fact, co-author Chris is the stupid goalie I'm stuck with in this iron man tournament. Don't worry...Sully will still be around to look after you guys. And he's already got a whopper of post planned out for next week. Be sure to tune into Saturday with Sully tomorrow as well.
