Well noon has come and gone and there's no news to be found (right now) about Derek Meech. I'm assuming that this means he has cleared waivers and is still a member of the Detroit Red Wings.
As usual, I'll update this post once I have confirmation, but it appears that Derek Meech is still with the organ-i-zation and thus will have to absolutely play his best hockey ever to make the big squad out of training camp or else he'll be buried in GR for another season.
---UPDATED 12:20 PM---
Via Kevin Allen's Twitter: Detroit D Derek Meech cleared waivers, meaning he will fight for a spot in training camp.
There you have it, folks. If USA Today says it - it must be true.
---UPDATED 12:30 PM---
Good insight from George James Malik that I thought I would share with you.
With prospect camps and training camps opening, teams want to look at their own prospects first. Meech = after camp move. Assuming if Meech will move at all...I think he might end up in Grand Rapids.
If Matt Saler is correct, and Meech will have to pass through re-entry waivers to be re-called by Detroit, there is no way that he sees the big club (in Detroit, anyway) this year. Meech would be snatched up by somebody at $250,000 with us paying the other $250,000. Then again...I thought someone would take him at $500,000. Poor Derek.
